Man, last time I read the thread we were only talking about it - now we got POW and everything - you guys rock. Ani - I sent ya a return email, I'll be down at e55 tomorrow nite and meet with ya all to discuss everything proper.

Big respect for how well this project is moving - bring it on home.

Playing at the POW for a good cause - BRILLIANT!!!

Speaking of which, maybe some corporate sponsorship mite be worth looking into. They'd have big email lists and cash to help make things work. If your lucky, get some sponsors on board who may go dollar to dollar with what we collect. That could double or triple the money we can send over and get people back on their feet again.

Also, I'm up for poster runs if needed.

a lot of corporates including my work are matching donations dollar for dollar ... like DMZ said, could be worth looking at corporate donations to match door takings in exchange for branding etc.

Also alcohol sponsorship is an option - check with Prince to see who they have agreements with as they could supply 15-30 cases of beer or pre-mix which retails at around $5-7 a unit.

i like this idea.

if you can't get motive or someone else, i'm happy to lend a hand with any design (print or web). also happy to spin if there's still space for more dj's.

can't make e55 tonight tho...

another thought, anyone have any newspaper/magazine contacts that we could get to cover it? we could offer an alternative to the drug bus publicity the melbourne music scene has been getting lately...

Might be an idea to get a newspaper to do an article before hand, and then get them to go dollar for dollar, so they can then do another article saying how great the dance music scene is, and also how great they are for doubling what we raise. Means twice the funds and free advertising.....

EDIT: Actually, come to think of it, it'd be a more fun to get Victoria Police to go dollar for dollar. Might get them to lay off us a bit, plus, well, it'd just be a combination you wouldn't expect! Just don't see them going for it some how....

if you want media contacts let me know ... i know all the journo hacks across melbourne (beat/inpress/eg/hit etc) ;)

i can't see media going dollar for dollar as they already have tie in's to chairty org's ... but smaller street press and other online media (like resident advisor, the scene etc) might be able to chip in with discount or free display advertising.

have a look who's spending money with dance niche media at the moment - especially companies outside that scene - and approach them. They're already looking for association and the demo fit is a good one ... better chance of them allocating a charitable spend into their media budgets than approaching random companies.

if you have to get b&w go through tdc3

[email protected]

explain to him it's a charity thing as well - i'm assuming they do the A0 mono's for most of us so i think he'll be understanding.

for offset colour try [email protected]

as lucie said, some printers are still on holidays .. you're looking at 2-3 days minimum for turnaround time for anything offset - 24 hrs for anything mono.

if you're taking the 14th you'll need to have a release out today - i'd definitely take a friday over a thursday.

If all else fails, i'm thinking it's going to be A3 photocopied posters. My Dad has said his work can help out, and I used to work there, so I can go in and PC some stuff. Might see if they can donate it to our cause! Otherwise, I'll just pay them something small.

There is one of those TDC3 places across the road form where I work now. I'm about to go in there, so I'll see if they are open. It may just have to be OfficeWorks even. Basically--- we need something to go up over the next 2 days, and then be handing out flyers Friday and Saturday nights. So if it has to be simple, so be it. Which means if someone is able to design a poster, can it be in Black and White? That way we can just copy it right away. We have to be realistic... there isn't really time to be polished!

Having said that... if there is a printergodfather out there who can get us posters done at little or no cost, ready to be put up by Friday/Saturday at the latest.... lets not say no hey?!

It will be mad when it all pays off! Cant wait! :)

What size will the posters be? The long skinny ones that you can tape to telegraph poles would be cool since they can be taped to the poles pretty easy. I'll stick up a whole heap.
That's so plausible I can't believe it!

i'd be really careful with any pole posters - you don't want to see your entire donation swallowed up by fines.

avoid the entire city of port philip - pole posters/car bombs etc ... this means Sth Melbourne/St Kilda/Port Melbourne ... be really careful with this and especially with car bombs as they're looking to crack down on it around palace car park, fitzroy st and acland st carparks.

and avoid areas like Swan Street and Bridge Road in Richmond ... that's City of Yarra. When we were doing 40Hz at Lounge we had some close calls with them.

City bollards and Brunswick St/Smith St are best ... A0 paste ups around the CBD and surrounds are pretty much risk free too and have better exposure

I'm pretty sure it will be safe to put posters on 'block out' boards around shop fronts that are being constructed/rennovated ??? (ben u know more about this than me)

Theres a spot on the corner of inkerman and barkly and one on fitzroy from memory.

Mellogs... I intend to put some up down my street (Sydney Rd Brunswick). There is a shop a few doors down that everyone tacks posters too. It has been closed for ages (years). So if there are others there, I am hoping it is safe!

technically it's not legal ... but for something charitable like this I can't see the purana taskforce getting involved. mel's idea is a good one,

other facades/block board type things you need to check whether they're being used by rock posters - if so, keep away and find your own areas. the politics of guerilla marketing is intricate and detailed ...

another option is approaching shops of all kinds with high amounts of foot traffic - whether it be fashion or music or even milk bars ... whilst joe's corner store probably wouldn't let you throw a Slinky poster in the window, they might think twice about something for charity.

I guess the option is to hit as many eyeballs/ears as possible ... radio is a huge medium as it has high reach and is instant ... turnaround time is non-existant. JJJ/RRR/PBS ... even Nova and Fox ... if you hit them up I think they'd help.

Cheers for the tips shepherd. I'm thinking I'll try and do some in the city and I'll do some over in the east (since I live out that way it makes sense) and go round at night and stick em up where ever I think that it will get good exposure, basicly all the normal places where posters are put up.

AO--- won't hurt to try? Unreal!

I have just confirmed that we can have posters (photocopied) at 5cents a sheet. I'm a poor student, so if anyone is willing to help out, please let me know at the meeting tonight, or through private message. I'd be so grateful!

Now i have to go out..... no more major developments while I'm gone please, I don't think my heart and head can handle anymore!!!

you should do some A0 ... A3 is good but you can't throw too much info on them ...

also look at doing 2 tiered A3's to save money - ie, A 1/2 A2 into 2 sections ... so 2 A3's on top of eachother portrait makes a 1/2 A2 ... cost per unit is around 16-20 cents compared to 60-90 cents for a normal 1/2 A2.

bottom one methinks - i'd use a red for the cross ... nothing sneaky or sinister ... but red on white is high impact and communicates the urgency of the gig and what it's about.

the tape one is awesome too ... have you thought of doing a limited run burn of local tunes (cough lucas chan cough motive cough livewire cough blueprint etc) and selling them on the night to raise more money? $10 for each CD would cover manufacture and probably raise $6 per unit. just thought of that after seeing the tape logo and thought it'd make an ill cover.

its a good idea, though de we have enough time? unless someone knows a CD place, for cheap, that can cover the cost of the burn for the price we sell them for.

plus we have to sell them as well...
