so many ppl to choose from

lucas
blueprint
keltec
mangan
motive
jps
zero tolerance crew
andy page
steve may
chable
thayer
bass kleph (he'd been keen - i can put you in touch)

+ hip hop guys and drum&bass guys - heaps of possibilities ... i don't think you'd run into too much licencing politics and red tape on a local level.

it'd be a cool CD - great tunes, great cause

a few places do them for limited cost

otherwise if 10 people each have burners - 10 people could burn 10 each at home on white discs ... I'd be happy to sit at home for a few hours and burn off 20 or so and cover the cost of the discs.

I am happy to have my place as a collection point, but i'm in Brunswick. Don't know if that suits everyone
Thats cool I could make it to Brunswick me thinks. I'll cover the east side.

As for the logo I agree with shepherd simply coz its simple punchy and gets the point across coz of the whole aid thing, red cross pluss the cross on the rekkid... damn im crap at explaining stuff :P

the cd ting sounds cool I'll def wanna get my hands on one, the tape for the covor of the cd would be mad :)

the issue with a red cross on a white background is that it's actually trademarked worldwide and is illegal:

Red Cross: "We often see the red cross emblem used as a decorative symbol on signs, in advertising or to indicate first aid stations. This may not seem like a problem, but it is wrong. Use of the emblem by commercial enterprises dilutes the impact of the symbol at home and abroad besides being against the law."

hence the other colours... anyways, i like the third one. a cross (reversed out) on a vinyl sticker. gets across the medium and the message and is the simplest of the four.

happy to mock up posters/cd art/whatever if you guys want. let me know how tonight goes.

you could argue that quote from the red cross isn't applicable to a charity gig.

"of the emblem by commercial enterprises"

maybe white on red? :P

can i ask whether the prince are throwing any financial contribution into this? a % of alcohol sales would be noble considering.

this could be misconstrued ... but the venue wasn't booked that night ... so one could as cynical to say they're maybe looking for bodies in shop above being charitable.

i think no venue hire is great, but i don't think it'd be that pushy raising the possibility of a bar contribution - even 5% of takings would be at least $500 with around 3-400 heads in the place.

Maybe ask for sponsorship assitance ... ie, if they can source 20 cases of 'x' beer ... will they buy it back off melbourne beats at normal wholesale cost to venue?

i agree, good ideas there ben.. but venue hire that night or not .. do you think that if we werent doing this for a charity that they'd force a hire charge on us, is all im sayin.

POW is much bigger then we initially had in mind.. so glad we have it.

how about the record logo with the cross as two red band-aids, don't think you would run into too much trouble there....

Man, i leave for an hour and you guys are making cd's!

I think it's a great idea! I also have a burner.

I am taking notes from here for tonight, i have it all sorted people- trust!

And I like the idea of white on red, eye catching, but it may increase costs of producing posters etc

Can't wait to see you all down at E55 tonight--- this is it!!

seriously, I'd advise staying well clear of any type of red cross on a white background. there have been a zillion lawsuits to stop people using it, even charities.

ps - I may be able to get a CD duplication company to do a run of CD's for us. I'll give 'em a call and let ya know tonight

if you do cds don't forget to get an amcos licence!

they may grant you a free licence (they have discretion to do this for things like this) but you still need to apply & do the paperwork!

do you need an AMCOS/APRA licence if the works are unreleased, unpublished and there is sign off and written consent to release the works at no charge from each of the artists?

you need one even if you're doing a demo and giving it away for nothing!

whoever is organising the cd stuff should call amcos 9426 5200

it used to be sam (female sam) to speak to there re mechanical licences when i worked there... but that may have changed as it was a long time ago! :P

yes prince will have an apra licence for the music on the night...

but you'll need an amcos licence to manufacture cds...
