CDJ900's & 2000's
Hola peeps,
has anyone used the CDJ900's or 2000's yet?
we've got them for a boat party on the weekend.
any tips on these new little nuggets?
keen to take all tunes in on a flash drive - is it a simple plug & play?
might do some more research actually...

Re: CDJ900's & 2000's
Never used em. But I have seen em, and the 2000 has the waveform readout on the display doova so you don't need to know your tunes nearly as well. Is good for timing of dropping a tune or change or whatever.

Re: CDJ900's & 2000's
as long as you have the network cable that connects the CDJs together you can use one thumb drive to play all your tunes...
1000's have waveform display also. with CDA.

Re: CDJ900's & 2000's
what'd be sick is if you could also hook in the Ipad as a touch screen sequencer and use it to press up loops. altho i'm sure something like that already exists somewhere out there.

The 900's are fantastic to use.
Using a flash drive and having everything at the push of a button is so damn good.
So Good.

I didn't realise that the new CDJ400's also have USB input aswell.
Smart move on Pioneer's part.
will this knock Serato out with final scratch?
I want to buy a set now.

Why would you carry a laptop when you could use a thumb drive?
CDJs have wave display, track info, etc...

I understand the use and benefit of using vinyl and turntable as controller - but what else does Serato do that these guys don't?

Re: CDJ900's & 2000's
what is it like to scroll through a tiny screen? I think i'd much rather the interface of serato and still lug some vinyl with me
Re: CDJ900's & 2000's
It isn't too small - it's a good size to see and text is clearly legible.
Re: CDJ900's & 2000's
Its is definitely not small, the displays are very clear and easy to read in the dark... I checked the 2000s @ Billboard at the launch, and they are definitely a big step above the mk3 display...

For sure mini disc is tha future or maybe tape
Abelton ok, could be alot better for live i think, still along way to go before its really fun. Takes alot of time and is not as flexable on the fly as i would like... But I need to work on it more as the more you do with it the better it becomes and the more flexable it becomes..
So its cdjs for now, my vinyl i record to digital 32bit wav

you can try and download the manuals from the site but they all seem corrupted.
might just need a new adobe reader....
http://www.pioneer.co.uk/uk/products/44 ... media.html
I'm not sure of you'd be able to lan a 900 and a 2000 together though
mp3s get read into memory in real time on the 400s which can be a shit if you need to cue quickly.
i gave it a suss on one's i'd borrowed. I prefer cd audio. also some functions don't work so well with mp3s
file reading might be better on the new ones
wav or aiff files might be faster with them they at least support them
and yeah. always take backup.
and let us all know how good they are....

and yeah, i have to agree with jerry/pete ... firstly, what's the biggest thumbdrive you can get these days? still around 32gb? so you're not going to be able to take as much music as a laptop. even then, serato you click in the search box, type what you're after and bosh. cdj ... less so.
plus they're fucking expensive as shit. i can't really see anyone who isn't sponsored buying them ... last time i was in buying gear, they said 'we've sold literally zero to clubs/bars/etc, only to cashed-up bogans on mines in wa', haha.

You can Lan them together - put in two 32Gb thumb drives and you're packing 64Gb (can switch between the two using the link button) and can still play CD's whilst thumb drive is plugged in.deejaypcp wrote:Feigan

I wonder if you could plug in an external hard drive via USB? makes sense that it should work.
will investigate
I took two thumb drives and my CD wallet as back up. Easy.
Re: CDJ900's & 2000's
They should give them to big clubs, that would start the ball rolling.
Don't hate me for house
Re: CDJ900's & 2000's
They did that with Room when they released the DJM1000 a couple of years back, not sure if it was give or loan - smart move though.
Re: CDJ900's & 2000's
there's no difference between thumb drives and external hard drives as far as the cdj is concerned, but it _may_ be limited to 32GB (i don't actually know this, but it's a relatively common limit).Feigan wrote:You can Lan them together - put in two 32Gb thumb drives and you're packing 64Gb (can switch between the two using the link button) and can still play CD's whilst thumb drive is plugged in.

Re: CDJ900's & 2000's
According to internal genious'...
CDJ2000 & 900 can be linked via network with absolutely no issues, external HDDs can be used but data transfer rates will obviously be slower than using a 32gb SD card or thumb drive. I'm not sure if there are storage capacity limits but I dont believe there would be. Pioneer are pretty sharp when it comes to future-proofing.
They (Pioneer) are bring stubborn fuckers when it comes to unit price but there are excellent deals @ Store DJ where you can trade 1000mk3s for a good chunk of dollar value off depending on condition of CDJ.
I would also suggest keeping your eyes peeled for the Numark NDX800, which is very close to being delivered... gonna take a big slab of the middle range market... its time they built a solid, competitive CD player and its almost ready to roll. Looking forward to snapping up a pair and running them into the ground.

Besides regular CD discs, the CDJ-900 can play music files that have been copied to USB storage devices, such as flash memory and hard disk drives. Compatible file formats are MP3, AAC, WAV and AIFF (16/24-bit). Files on Tonium’s Pacemaker*1 can also be played when connected as a storage device via USB.
James - absolutely spot on, they need to get these out into venues ASAP. Has anyone seen them anywhere yet?
Price wise - I don't think they are that high. $1899 for a cdj900 & $2599 for CDJ2000.
what was the entry level price for1000's when they came out? was circa $2K wasn't it?
Re: CDJ900's & 2000's
I dont understand why the CDJ900 is in such a different price bracket. Essentially the same machine, but has slip mode.. which the 2000 doesnt. I dont think advanced looping features are worth an extra $700.

I cant wait to try and play over 100 songs in an hour set. Totally do-able. I can now see why you need a laptop, the crowd demand a eclectic range of rnb, soul, classical, and indie and we must have them on hand at all times. We do need our entire music collection in case we cant please that little blondie in the front requesting Taylor Swift.

Re: CDJ900's & 2000's
Not all of us play just one hour sets benny I played for 8.5hrs yesterday at 2 gigs, where you need a range of music, not just DnB, not a planned set either, heh. No diss on cds, it's what format you like really. I like the feel of playing on a turntable, hence the preference on serato, but i do use the serato cds at times as well where i walk into a venue and the turntables are shit (Old, unmaintained, numark or some rubbish like that, heh). Simply, i like using the laptop because you can do a search as well(can that be done on the CDJ? If so that's awesome....).bonsai wrote:Serato slammers seem to think a hard drive is neccessary, whats so ridiculous about an external drive?

Re: CDJ900's & 2000's
I'd prefer time coded vinyl and a lappy (Traktor, Serato etc) over CDJ's. Any day.
I like the feel and control of turntables and vinyl under my hand. I even like the look of it.
You can still throw records on if you like. And even a CD in the CD slot. Win-win-win.
