SAVE LIVE AUSTRALIAN MUSIC
Hi friends,
Please show your support for our local live music scene on Tuesday Feb 23rd by attending the S.L.A.M. Rally. The recent changes to licensing laws will have a negative impact on small live music venues, musicians and you and you have a chance to do something about it rather then sitting around a few months from now reminiscing about the "good old days".
S.L.A.M. is a non-politically aligned, independent entity made up of musicians and music lovers.
In a bid to address ugly street violence the State Govt. and Liquor Licensing have introduced some sweeping Licensing changes that have had some unintended consequences for the local music scene. We want the Govt. to be man enough to admit they made a mistake and to make the required simple changes (repeal that amplified music in small venues need double security) immediately!
--------------------------
On the 23rd of Feb, coinciding with the 34th anniversary of ACDC's famous 'It's A Long Way To The Top' film clip shoot down Swanston St, S.L.A.M (Save Live Australia's Music) is organising a protest in support and celebration of the music scene in Victoria where current liquor licensing laws threaten to pull the plug on live music.
We will meet at 4pm outside the State Library and make our way along Swanston St and up Bourke St to Parliament House in Spring St where we will have guest speakers from 6-7pm.
We have organised the RocKwiz Orchestra with guest performers to lead the rally, repeating the three chords from 'It's A Long Way to the Top' in the back of a flat bed truck as we follow - ALL 10,000 + OF US - holding placards and instruments chanting down these ridiculous laws!!
Lack of support for this precious industry has gone on for too long!
Celebrate the diversity of Victorian music - this will be a day to remember!
PLEASE USE THIS IMAGE AS YOUR PROFILE PIC - IT'LL CREATE A HUGE IMPACT IF WE ALL DO IT!

If you are a DJ, promoter, door girl, sound guy, musician, MC, avid punter, venue worker, security guard...
YOU NEED TO SUPPORT THIS.
its not just live bands and live band venues that are affected by this.
Looking forward to a huge turnout!!!

Re: SAVE LIVE AUSTRALIAN MUSIC
Heard on the radio this morning the Government saying they will take another look at the rules. At least thats a start. Paul Dempsey was on yesterday as well and made an interesting comment about a 2000 strong club having the same rules and one with 25 capacity specialising in Norweign Folk music.
Understand why theyve had to do something, but make it specific to the trouble makers. Although asking a government department to do extra work appears to be a problem

Was pretty heartening to see so many people from Melbourne come together over an important cultural issue.

Yeah the Brumby govt has got to pull finger. I don't like the 11th hour attempt.

Re: SAVE LIVE AUSTRALIAN MUSIC
I didnt get to make it down afterall
BUT, came into work this morning hearing all this whinging about long it took people to get home. I said with a raised voice that it was a necessary evil and how many of you listen to music? Rant rant rant and most agreed and were ok with the delay if it was for music. Gold.
Good on you all for going,

Re: SAVE LIVE AUSTRALIAN MUSIC
I want Brumby tarred and feather, hogtied and made to walk one of our entertainment precincts in shame.
He has truly made life VERY difficult for anyone in the industry with some of this dumb legislation, and eventually, our precious music culture will become beige.
NO! I SAY NO!!!!

I'm still upset at the loss of The Tote. I went to the Workers Club last night and was amused by the irony of listening to The Tote jukebox after protesting against the legislation that closed the iconic pub.

Heartwarming to see so many people turn up. I was proud to be a melburnian.
However, I hate brumby and this state government so much I could almost vote liberal.
