Re: the news thread
who cares lol - should it be there forever?
i reckon there are 6 million billion photos of it on flickr anyway.
then you could do what my dear old housemate HANS the fucking BELGIAN did and print it out on A3's at work, get them laminated and attempt to put them up in the loungeroom.
bless him, the cunt.
... anyway the rat didnt have a permit, rules are rules.

if i had 10k i would love to pay 20 kids to fill a whole street or 'urban space' with lolful tags. i bet the resulting dense mass would look good and have to stay, once teh permit was bought of course.Melbourne Council has introduced a permit system that can give building owners permission to display graffiti works, but Mr Thorne said the building displaying Banksy’s rat did not have one.
“The council is trying to clean up all of the tagging in the city and they’re trying to differentiate between tagging and street art and I guess in this case they just couldn’t,” Mr Thorne said.

I also like the perspect screen idea as well.

Re: the news thread
I love graf as much as the next person, spent a large chunk of my teenage years doing it (albeit badly), and I appreciate it on a daily basis
Don't you think that when they do stuff like cover a stencil with perspex, it attacks the very core ethos of graffiti? Transience is what makes graffiti great.......it evolves, it ebbs and it flows
When you see your favourite old school burner get buffed or capped by a toy, it's heart breaking, but constant change is what makes street art such a passionate pursuit
Sorry bout the rant, I'm not trying to jump down your throat, but I just think that the fact that Banksy has visited Melbourne and done a few tags is fairly boring. The works in question are far from ground breaking, the only reason there's a fuss is because "it's a Banksy"
I saw heaps of Reka tags in Harajuku recently. They'll be gone in a few years, capped by sick cunt upstart Japanese dudes. That's life
taking it to the graffiti thread

Re: the news thread
I think we should lure Banksy back to Australia with the possibility of an Order of Australia, but then give it to an actual good artist and lock him up for 5 years. In this time we can arrange for to supply him with painting supplies then once a year sell his tagged up cell to some twat on the internet for 1 million.
Simple science.

Re: the news thread
bankseeeeee?
I dont get it, cant he just come and do anovver stencil bruv?
what makes a Banksy stencil irreplaceable street art? I'm keen to hear what people think of that. Banksy's work tackles notions of disposability among other themes so I dont think he'd be bothered at all. Those stencils were never meant to be forever, they're visual commentary on a period of time IMO.
I remember getting into a fight with a guy at Spitalfields market in London who was selling canvas prints of Banksy's work.
I told him he was an unoriginal bootlegger, he said its what Banksy would have wanted.
I calmed down after that, cos I think he's right.
