A collective of dance dj’s/acts, promoters and the wider Melbourne dance music community have joined forces to stage an event in an effort to raise money for victims of the recent Quake and Tsunami in Asia.

Branded beat.aid, the night provides a stellar line up of international and local breaks and drum n bass acts. All those involved have generously donated their time, and the Prince of Wales has provided the venue free of charge.

An exclusive beat.aid CD has been compiled to commemorate the night. The CD will include a selection of tracks from contributing Melbourne breaks and drum n bass artists. This CD will cost $10 and will only be available for purchase at beat.aid, with all money going towards the appeal, so don’t miss out.

100% of funds will be donated to the Red Cross Asia Quake & Tsunami Appeal.

Should we say that the money from cd sales also goes to the cause?

not all of the tracks on the CD are unreleased

Andy Page has donated Mr Rush for inclusion on the CD and I'm trying to get tracks from NuBreed and EK which may also be released already

I don't think we need to talk about the raffle

thanks for feedback..

wasn't 100% sure on content of cd so just put 'unleased' as a space saver.

i don't think we need to mention raffle either...

lucie commented that we should say '100%' of proceeds going to .... and i agree

try and get a quote from one of the headliners or lynt/sk/lucie/ani etc "I support this cos etc etc". It's a personal show done by a group of people so I think it needs some kind of personal touch like that

put the date and venue in the subject title - very important for street press as they cut and paste everything.

send it as message text not as an attachment - eds/writers don't always read attachments

instead of putting $20 minimum, why not put. "$20 on the door, however we encourage patrons to give generously." or something along those lines - $20 minimum sounds a bit clumsy.

this sounds really salesy, but have a look at the other tsunami based events and their press releases, and make yours different ... if everyone is saying the same message the impact will be lost.

if the prince gets a mention for donations then i think agent mad, koan, dmc etc should also be given props for their help.

this is crazy though - look at the lineup. respect!

looks good karl :D

It reads pretty formal tho... and im worried about it getting too wordy.. we risk control of what is cut out if too big.

And yes, we def. need to make sure the PR is sent in body of message not as attachment..... they crack it otherwiwse :?

Edit: maybe next to the 'beat.aid' title at top put the date and venue

i don't think it reads too salesy ... but a general thought I've had is I think some of the tsunami relief events have alterior motives (not scamming profits, but purely PR devices to raise brand awareness for a venue/promoter) ... definitely not this one ... but you don't want readers thinking this.

i guess call to action phrases should be avoided - 'don't miss out' on the CD for sale.

The objective would be to put the message out there and let people process it in their own way. Like the reader sees it and says - 'hey, these guys have all come together to do a party, money is going to charity and it looks fun. I'd like to be involved.' Instead of - and I've seen this in some other charity threads - 'DJ XYZ is donating his entire fee so you should come and drink the bar dry as we've said we'll donate an unspecified amount of takings to a charity we're yet to decide.'

That said - i think the latest one is great and the event is gobsmackingly ill! Just minor comments/waffling

put a number in to any release sent to press - cos its so last minute phone is the quickest way for them to make instant contact - if they want to org an interview or something. don't put it online or in mass emails - just in the ones targeted to media types.
