MELBOURNE SURF SHOP IS CLOSING DOWN
MELBOURNE SURF SHOP IS CLOSING DOWN
Hey guys,
It make me really sad to announce this but the Melbourne Surf shop, a surfing and skateboarding institution is closing down in three weeks. All the stock is reduced down, t-shirts are $15 each or 2 for $20, hoodies are $40 or $45 for zips. Pants are reduced $30 and all the boards are no more than $70. We also have a heap of 80’s vintage t-shirts, jumpers and singlets at cheap prices.
On a personal note I would like to send out lots of love to Tony Olsson, the man with the socks, the guy who used to hassle you for a sale and probably one of the most bizarre guys I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. About three years ago he was diagnosed in with Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and now he is coming to his last legs. Tony has been such a help to me, I have always been welcomed and past all his craziness he is one of the nicest people I have ever known. I would also like to thank my amazing, caring grandma (Lynn). She has been the backbone of the shop and I look forward to her finally retiring.
So get down while you can, there is about 3 weeks till the shop closes and prices will keep going down as the weeks pass.
Cheers
Pete

Answer: Melbourne's new rave kids are afforded the unique opportunity to buy new clothes that are older and far more authentic than their music tastes
Don't hate me for house

Re: MELBOURNE SURF SHOP IS CLOSING DOWN
Honestly almost cried.
If i remember correctly I bought my first real skatedeck in Melbourne Surf. I was all of 10 and it was around 1990. It was a pink on black Powell deck. My mate, Tim, who lived up the street insisted it was the only place to buy. I still have it (probably worth a fortune). For the next decade I returned to get my decks and gear. The journey to the city was always part of the fun. Bit of mischief on the train, bit of stop off at Flatlands - down to Mega Zone for a cheeky and some more mischief. Even after I stopped skating i kept going to buy t-shirts and hoddies and hats - just to support the crew who had been there forever. Was there ever a week that everything was on special because they had found a box of t-shirts from the 90's. I was marvelled when years later I met a young upstart named Pete who was related. Funny little town - this Melbourne town. Funny and endearing - and it is a moment in time to stop and reflect on the places like this little store that stood tall through the onslaught of development and decline to be what it always was. A shrine to street.

Re: MELBOURNE SURF SHOP IS CLOSING DOWN
Love this shop, always had quality clothing at reasonable prices. Was awesome how they sold 2nd hand shoes, after substance went this was pretty much one of the last decent skate shops in the city.
Re: MELBOURNE SURF SHOP IS CLOSING DOWN
Substance! Had forgotten all about that place. Wow this thread is bringing back some memories.......anyone remember this guy? Have a vague recollection of him working there in the late nineties....used to frequent Scubar too haha
