Dear Nerdy Thread,
I am moving. Should I bring lappy and external hard-drive in the car with me? Or send the hard-drive (ie. back-up device) with the movers? All my reallyreally important stuff is in one billionty seven other places, but there's plenty of other stuff that it would suck to lose that is just on those two.
I am not planning to drive into a flaming death pit.
Love and hugs,
Retzie.

mecka - I haven't followed these games but was wondering - if this is set thousands of years before the star wars movies, why does it look like there are Jake the Muss clones (i.e. early stormtroopers)?

Re: the official console and PC nerdy thread!
Good question, and I don't know the answer. I'm assuming its to create some sort of familiarity with the audience. Not quite sure as to why technology hasn't progressed despite thousands of years of developments in the SW universe.
I noticed that there is a very vague running plot through the three trailers Bioware has put out. The soldier and female Jedi appear in the first and last videos, and the sith dude is in all three.

Re: the official console and PC nerdy thread!
No empire or clones. It's set in the republic (hence the title "The Old Republic"), which was what the empire replaced in the second trilogy. There are complex rules as to what is defined as "canon" in star wars. I can't be bothered explaining, so take a look here: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Canon

I can't believe I read all of that.apophenian wrote:No empire or clones. It's set in the republic (hence the title "The Old Republic"), which was what the empire replaced in the second trilogy. Sure, it may be canon. But its more the laziness or the reliance on known designs and motifs - particualrly the storm trooper/clone looking guy. It would be nice if things looked a little different or the possibility of a different era is looked into (maybe it is?). It kind of reminds me of the redletter media reviews of the prequels - e.g. the kids training lightsabers with the blast visors - turning an impromptu thing with whatever was lying around (luke in ANH) into some codified jedi training program
I'm no trekkie but didn't they explore those sort of ideas in some of the spinoff series? old or poorly working technology, that sort of thing?

Will lhave to make do with Fifa12, BF3 release imminent, and as always SC2 (bring on Heart of the Swarm expansion too!)

Re: the official console and PC nerdy thread!
Very unimpressed with the BF3 beta on xbox
Re: the official console and PC nerdy thread!
It's a shit map. The game mode is ripped from Battlefield: Bad Company 2, which was a shit game. Will pick up on release date, but more curious as to how Conquest will pan out.

Re: the official console and PC nerdy thread!
i prefer BFBC2 to any previous BFs..
wasn't a fan of BF2 or 1942 tbh.
used to like CoD before it became a shitty omfgwecanmake$letsreleaseagameevery2weeks series.
BC2 is somewhere inbetween and i like the multiplayer, can have a casual bash, variety of modes + active servers for them etc.
yet to try BF3 beta (pc), might DL tonight
