mecka: Definitely not a photographer by trade. Would love to though! Dream job = Ride my bike around in the sun all day taking photos of stuff.
ADD_Boy: I paid $120 and got an extra 50mm f/1.8 prime lens that I pretty much use 100% of the time now. You can't zoom with it (zoom with your feet) but the images are really sharp and it gives nice depth of field, great in low light too.

Here's what I do for shooting @ night.
Set camera to 100 ISO (this is the best quality)
Set camera to Aperture priority mode: This means that you set the Aperture manually and the camera works out the best shutter speed to match it.
Set the Aperture to f/8.
Then just point and click.
Tripod is essential using this method because 100 ISO is the least 'sensitive' setting and means the shutter speed is slower.
