Beat Aid Aftermath & Thank you Thread

On Jan 14, 2005 the Melbourne Beats crew along with some 700+ people raised around $17,000 for the Asia Quake & Tsunami appeal. This forum is an archive of the organisational discussion for the event.

Beat Aid Aftermath & Thank you Thread

Post by lucas »

Just wanted to send out my personal thanks to everyone that came together to make this night possible.

I don't know the exact amount that we raised, I'm pretty sure it was over $17k.

This whole Melbourne Beats thing started because of a strong belief that we have one rockin' little music community in Melbourne and tonight you guys proved it. Thank you for making me feel somewhat vindicated in setting up these forums, thank you for helping us raise a bucket load of money for charity, and thank you for the positive attitude you've all shown (without which; none of this would have been possible).

I hope you all enjoyed the night as much as I did.

Now, time to shower and zzzzzzz.........

as I said here

melbourne rocks!

thank you all...

To the folks who helped put it together - Annie, Karl, Glenn, Lucas, etc - the list goes on! Your dedication and enthusiasm blew me away!

To the artists without whom we'd have all been standing around twiddling our thumbs

To the folks who came on the night - without your generosity and support we would not have been able to raise the funds that we did to help the survivors in S.E Asia get back on their feet - we raised a total of $16,753!

This does not include the remainder of the commemorative CDs which will (to my knowledge) be available from DMC Beats from Monday - 12 brockin tracks from a talented bunch of Melbourne artists - still only $10 and with all proceeds still going to the Red Cross Asia Quake & Tsunamis Appeal - a worthwhile purchase if I ever saw one! ;)

Big pats on the back all round :)

eskay over and out

As stated on another forum, damn that was a fun party. Well done to all the organisers, you guys must have worked so hard to get what needed to be done. Phil, AP, Nubreed, and BLIM all tore the roof off the place! Spotted Keltec havin' a boogie up front during Andy Page too! Even Phil was shakin' his arse! Never seen that before, but was great to see even all the acts havin' a great time for an awesome cause. Once again, I applaud you :smt023 :smt003

I'm still overwhemled by last night. Such a great turnout and a fantastic vibe, and it all went off without a hitch. Thankyou to everyone who supported this, helped out (you were all great!) and all the hugs :) The generousity of the crowd was incredible. Door sales totalled $15 590, which includes an extra $700 in donations on top of the $20 per person charge. Sales from cd's, raffle and massages (after the cd's were paid for) totalled $1163. And more to come!! (Grand total as eskay said: $16753!!!!!!!!)
And thankyou to all the performers. You guys were having as much fun as the crowd, and that makes all the difference!

We did it people!!! Let's hear it for Melbourne Beats! :smt041 What an incredible team. I've never been so proud as I am just being part of this community. Everyone on this site is so positive and supportive. Lets not ever loose that! What a way to bring us together and start the new year. I can't wait to hand the money over to the Red Cross and tell them how we managed to raise it in the space of 10 days. It's a dream!!

well done guys for all your hard work and putting on such a great party. I'm still waiting for you to ring me about the raffle prize though! (I love a raffle LOL). We had a great time last night, and it looked like all the performers did too. NuBreed rocked the house and the whole evening was excellent!

thank you! Give yourselves a big pat on the back! 8)

Just came back from work and listened to the CD on the way home. Some nice stuff! The more bangin' DNB ain't my thing, but those liquid and/or jazzy Drum and Bass tunes were dope! Oh, and Lucas, loved your tune the most :smt040 Lovely chilled out number...keep up the good work! You're gonna go places, kiddo :smt004

A massive well done everyone on a massive night....had a ball + have had sooo much postive feedback from alot of ppl.

Thanks heaps to the artist who not only played for free, danced with everyone but were genuinely keen as to be a part of it all + pay an entry fee(as much as I instisted it wasn't necessary) + donate extra.

...but the wanker of the night award goes to...(drumroll)..

The Kojack look-alike who insisted he and his dog-faced women should get in for free and even threatned to punch my lights out over the matter....wtf really :smt013

Did anyone see Greg Fleet at the bar wasted?.....funiest i've seen him :smt005

Well done all on a very successful night. Throwing something as big as this together so quickly is no small feat; I'm used to booking gigs two months ahead. And to pack the P.O.W. with so many heads is something I can only dream about. You guys are amazing.

what an awesome night!!

the Thanks have all been said but at the end of the day it all comes down to the fact that we raised $16 753, which was the whole point.

bloody stoked that we could help out so much while doing what we all love. mucho respecto!

If we really push the CD sales we can reach the $20 000 goal, just gotta sell another 300 CD's.

They'll be available from DMC and will also be on sale at the next Beats Working party. buy 'em as gifts for mates or give 'em to ya little siblings so they get a little bit of education  at the same time knowing that the $$$ go to a worthwhile cause instead of some record company.'

I can only echo the sentiments of everyone above, It was a pleasure to be part of such an amazing night. A huge congratulations to everyone involved, it goes to show what you can achieve with dedication, passion and enthusiasm!

The thing that really blew me away was the vibe, the joint was already jumping at 10pm as Blueprint was winding up his set, and didn't let up until close. It has been a while since I have seen such an excited and up for it crowd.

Gigantic ups to all involved, it was one mutha farkin memorable night!!

omg.

Now THAT was a party. One of the best vibes I've felt at a party in a long time, shiney happy people everywhere all doing thier bit for a good cause.

Where does one begin?

Blueprint, you are a star. Totally rocked it. You're going to go places son! Phil K and Mangan dropped slickest breaks and tech lining up Andy Page (who is God) for his stellar live set. Even by then (12am) the place was rammed.. who has ever seen the Prince full at 12am before? Not I.

NuBreed, what can I say... amazing. Heard so many praises sung all night after their set, and doing it for a good cause, a thousand thank-yous!

All got a bit hazy after NuBreed, I remember Blim dropping some phat beats and tearing the floor up like a gentleman and Tali was definately the main crowd puller for the evening with the place going silly...

Kombat Bass & Fletch vs Seven was mental tearing it till 6am... wicked.

Who would have thought 12 days ago we all thought it would be dope to put on a party, and we packed out the Prince.

THANK YOU to everyone who was involved in getting this off the ground. Especially the word spreaders, we got a great turn out which was more then expected, great to see Melbourne pulling together in the name of Music and Humanity.

I've got a few photos I'm going to put up somewhere, most are blurry drunken shots of the floor, but you'll get the idea.

Well done Melbournebeats... you should be well proud of yourself.

When's the next party Ani............. ? ;)

was so fuking happy BLIM dropped Skapurr (was it just for me? )
crazy cat.

agreed on Blueprint- off the hook. Uses great samples, layers some dope lines over the top, and just when you think the track is in full swing, shakka boom- he drops a huge bass line in over the lot and kicks it to infinity. got to see that shit again.

For the hour that i was there (before my boyfriend got thrown outta Prince in a headlock by security  ) I had an awesome time. The place was absolutely rockin!! I was so proud to be part of something that came together so quickly and united us all the way it did.

Nubreed were great as usual, unfortunately i missed out on everything after them!

Karl: I think we managed to vaugely hold a conversation before we both gave up on account of how drunk we both were! Oh well, we tried!

Fickuss: Once again, i'm so sorry that i couldn't help ya, but i'll meet up with you this week for the flyers!
