isn't the pinwheels the sign for connecting to internet/downloading.

if you ran em all at once maybe they are still updating? would have to be pretty slow but I guess its possible.

nah, it's a winterboard/etc thing to tell you that that app is running in the background.

i think its called backgrounder

MRJ--> it does seem like that... but cydia would not update the phone app, nor the ipod app.

some other apps get that wheel momentarily after I close them... 3G is not active though, meaning there's nothing downloading....

weird.

edit: fooish--> right, that makes sense... never did that before, I hope I can turn it off. looks crap.

Isn't that pretty much the only reason you'd use Cydia / Winterboard? Like the killer feature?

nah, killer feature of winterboard is theming and adjusting GUI functions (like 5 icon dock/springboard etc)

backgrounding is just one program you can download, which allows you to run apps in the background, which is cool and I do use it... but it's never shown me which apps are running in the main GUI like that before, I usually use SBSettings to see what apps are running and kill/launch certain apps.

Go to settings and find your backgrounder settings and turn off badges and they'll be gone ;)

I havent upgraded cos i wanna kep it..

It also unjailbreaks your phone and stops you from re-jailbreaking... an exploit has still not been found by Dev-team (or anyone else for that matter)... I'm not upgrading, it seems as though preventing hacks is the only reason for the update, so why would you?

i haven't gone to 3.0.1 yet so couldn't tell ya. but i figured no real reason to go to new firmware just yet anyways, will wait until it actually contains something worth upgrading for.

okay, few days in and got some questions for you guys...

- what is the best app for checking your optus usage? dan you said you had found one.

- d/l some free apps like metlink/FB/shazam and a copule games, they worked the first day or so, now i touch them and they wont even load. not even to remove them. um.? wtf. what do i do?
geek forums are saying apps from itunes, do you guys install straight to phone or through itunes?

- why does it organise contacts into last name OR first name alphabetically, this is retarded as there is lots of one name contacts but also five daves wth something after to distinguish from them etc. can you change this or no?

initial thoughts are, yes its pretty and hot and snazzy, but why the hell dont the free apps work?

so whats the deal with jailbreaking ?

Still not sure if i should bother, had an old $50 itunes voucher, that I can now finally use for something. So im not sure if its worth bothering the risk of jailbreaking my phone.

Is there any risk? issues with updates etc?

yes there risks...

there's heaps of info in this thread already about jailbreaking....

whatever you do, don't upgrade to 3.1 if you want to jailbreak.

WunderRadio! Bought it last night. Its a bit pricey at $8 but it gets streaming radio world wide. So I can listen to stations back in Canada including Ice hockey when its on and also can tune in to Melbourne radio stations aswell like pbs, rrr, jjj etc etc. Haven't given it a good test yet but so far it seems to be pretty sweet.

@Mrj I looked at FS and didn't rathered the interface of WunderRadio. Is it worth paying $8 over the free version? Probably not to most people but it is a better app for what I wanted.

@Dboy It's something like 128kb streaming = 1mb/min.
