put yourself in their shoes though, imagine if the laws were any more draconian than that?

I wouldn't call them draconian laws, but I see your point.

F4 has a balcony where one full wall is made outta louvres, so they use that as the smoking area

All good, except the louvres were closed most of the night :?

As a long time smoker short time "outside" smoker, I was dubious of the benefits at first.
But on Wednesday night I consumed 6 tequilla shots and 2 jugs of beer and the next morning had NO hangover. I'd never associated my nasty habit with hangovers, but voila there you have it... Now I can get REAL drunk without fear!

F4's smoking area is 100% legal. The louvres are meant to be (and usually are) locked open which gives the area the required 25% open wall or ceiling. The louvre (for those who haven’t seen them are vertical and run almost the entire length of the wall (from top to bottom)).

There was an incident (or two) on Saturday where patrons took it upon themselves to close the louvres because it was cold, it wasn’t for “most of the night” as brb says, but yes it did happen. They were previously locked open and will be locked open permanently while the club is open from now on.

The council has consulted with the club and confirmed that the space is acceptable as a smoking area.

Agree.

As there would have been 0% open wall and ceiling. The louvres must have been unlocked.

They were accidently left unlocked and a few patrons closed them, The middle section (as far as I know) was open the entire time. But at no stage were they all closed at the same time (not that that is OK as they should be all open all the time).

They will be firmly locked in the open position from now on, and they have been locked all other times as last Sat is the only time I've noticed them being closed at all.

Hang about...what?? Can you be clearer, what you meaning when you say it's illegal to smoke outside in the UK? Surely you mean in outdoor restaurant etc yeah?

The no smoking in cars thing is apparently only for people under 18yo. Basically they're saying kids don't really have a choice in how they travel, but if you're riding with a pal to the pub, it's your decision to get in the car with a fagger.
