I dont get the hype with miyako. thought it nice but overrated

obviously there are great places there but not the sort of thing id normally be inclined to, but for a mum date it makes sense. my impression was that the upstairs places were better than the waterfont ones overall.

Hate to burst your bubble Gnat. I'm not harsh, just being hoenest. I have eaten at a few places, Bluetrain is probably the best but I'd prefer a teake away kebab than dining there.

Did you order Teppanyaki or just get something standard from the menu?

Both. Sat at teppanyaki table and had entres etc from the menu. thought the teppankayi was yummy but like a flashy barbeque, the flavours were barely japanese. the theatrics were totally awesome though.

actually its a general thing about teppanyaki for me as well. my favourite japanese flavours are more the stews, soups and sashimi than the old hot plate stuff - yaki dishes ive always associated with the japanese streetside dining/beer swilling - fun but not the best food

Gnat - While i personally don't eat there regularly at all, i thin there are a few that could give you that melbourne Vibe by the water etc you are looking for. Try Automatic, same deal as Blue train it was started by Paul Mathis who starte Choc Buddah (sold to hi sis) and Taxi/Transport...

There is also a seafood place along there but i think it may be pretty $$$$ other than that i used to go the Greco years ago for coffee and cake, no idea what it would be like now...

As i said i would probe eat other places, BUT to show your mum a nice Melbs night on the water, there are places you can go...

Rockpool view was lovely and yes, $$$.

My favourite river view is from Red Emperor as I have yum cha on a Saturday or Sunday morning.

I'd pass on Blue Train. Too busy and noisy there, food is nothing special. Tutto Bene is novel for being a risotto restaurant if your Mum likes that, but it can be busy and noisy too.

Transport is a good spot for a drink, snack and view of the hussle and bussle at the Princes Bridge in the afternoon.

Otherwise, give your Mum the cosy winter Melb experience with a hot chocolate at KokoBlack.

everything i've read says panama dishes are around 20 bucks for mains- that's well reasonable.. they don't have menu and prices listed on their website..

MOO last night.

Chargrilled baby octopus, salt and pepper calamari, crispy ham and romesco followed by 450 g grass-fed rib-eye (blue rare) with glazed shallots, crispy pancetta and wild mushroom, rocket and parmesan salad, washed down with glass of D'arenberg Shiraz Viognier, topped off with yoghurt bavros with macerated fruit and sugar crostini.

Plus catching up with dead-set legend aunt.

Mmmmmm. My gastric capacity was sated.

baked breakfast is the best.

easy cos you can make it all in one dish and don't have heaps of washing up. no one wants washing up in the morning!

super hard to time it so the egg yolk is runny and the whites cook and don't look like snot egg though.

Yum direkt!
homemade sausage rolls are DOPE. my housemate's are incredible.

i made a wicked pumpkin soup on sat with ginger, chilies, coconut milk and chopped coriander for garnish. mmmm...wintery goodness.

made spag bog on sunday but the fucking butcher sold me lamb mince instead of beef! no good. :?

Lamb spag bol hey? How did that go down? Not good I'm guessing....

Got a great spag bol recipe off taste.com.au if anyone's keen...

it wasn't too bad, but would never do it purposely. kinda oily and meaty if that makes sense. didn't work at all. was edible, but i'll be adding vegies to the left overs to try and mask the flavour a bit. stupid butcher.

my dad's bog recipe is king. half a bottle of wine ftw.

Traditional Bologneise (sp?) is supposed to have Beef Mince, Veal Mince AND Pork Mince, but no Lamb.
VERY rare to find a place that does it though.

gonna cook up a mad batch of Soup tonight. Got a massive Ham hock and a bunch of wicked vegies. get a whole farken cauldron worth!

Baked Potatoes with all the trimming for dinner tonight though!!

after all my southbank/ panama/ grossi back and forth we ended up going local to tom phat

haven't been in a year or so. we kinda overdid it there when it opened

lovely food, warm relaxo vibe and nice tunes = win

also had lunch at foxey's hangout- MAGIC spot and divine tasty tapas style food- oh the flavours. also mental wine and mad casual vibe

10 mins by tractor fA1L- wines, prices, atmosphere and cockheads in range rovers

wineries which cater purely to rich wankers have the wrong idea altogether.

t'gallant and balnarring a resounding win as per usual

a weekend of mad food and wine. gingerlee brekky and coffee is best in brunny although i hazard a guess the chef tastes better lol
