We have a movie meeting a little earlier, then excellent sounds from lephrenic, our special guest and a short blast from myself.
Now all I've got to do is think of wot to play...

I personally haven't prepared anything. I'm thinking a Parov Stelar tribute, with a dash of local Asia-Pacific producers, could be a nice twist. My set last week was great, I don't necessarily need a quality recording this week. You on the other hand... mr off beat debut...

Speaking of my greatness, here is the audio from my 18th Off Beat set. 70MB or something.

Download - http://www.umfm.net/radio/streams.php?d ... reamid=337

192kbps stream - http://www.umfm.net/radio/streams.php?streamid=337

Dial-up stream: http://www.umfm.net/radio/streams.php?streamid=338

Track listing:

DJ Trace - Sniper
Tom Heasley - Prelude
Autumn - Transmute
Yorg - The Tide
Wiseguys - We be the crew
RJD2 - The Horror
Foreign Beggars - I remember where it all started
Jay Dilla - Last donut of the night
Talib Kweli - The Perfect Beat feat. KRS-One
Mum - Dancing Behind My Eyelids
Album - En Facil
Sonic Youth - Dirty Boots
Venetian Snares - Hajnal
2Spaced Out - Lords with strings
Florintiner Marsch interlude
Nitin Sawnhey - Letting Go
DelicaSession - Coastal (Vibes Dub)
Touch and Nato - Somethin' Real ft. Wordsmith
Foreign Beggars - Frosted Perspeks
Wiseguys - We be the crew (reprise)

Half of this is from independent producers who sent their music in to UMFM (including Foreign Beggars). High quality.

Excellent sets from Paranoid Edge and Lephrenic last week.

Audio is up on www.umfm.net - check the Off Beat show for specifics.

This week we have our last quiet one for a while before the series takes off with special events every week.

Lephrenic and Sea, 2 hours each, and a horde of young backpackers. It's also my mother's birthday, I must remember to call her. Come by and say hi.

Next week - Thursday the 14th - I Love Drumfunk - your pre-drink destination for all the excellent happenings in the city. We'll have chilled out dnb courtesy of Zero Hour, Agent Orange and Lephrenic.

straight up if anybody found your lost assortment of music, they're probably becoming a DJ right now, and off beat's the only gig they'd find where they could play it... they'll show up... play their set, and the DBoys will wait for them outside. It will be beautiful, sinister, man-made karma

"backpackers" refer to people who live in temporary housing when they visit new cities, and I am hoping a hundred of them show up tonight.

Alrite last night was crazy fun in strange ways. Nice when random strangers show up, and nice when they drive you home, even if you mistakenly tell them to turn left, it takes them on a toll highway, and far away from where you were going. Thank you K & A.

Well next week we have a very special Off Beat, highlighting atmospheric drum & bass from three quality selectors. Hope you can make it, should be a good pre-drink for the other important things in town that night.

There's a lot happening on Valentine's Day, so we've assembled your perfect pre-drink locale ahead of Lounge, F4, your place, or wherever else you'll be making out on the 14th.

Off Beat presents I Love Drumfunk! An evening of excellently chilled and atmospheric drum & bass beats in a laid back setting and panoramic visuals. $3.50 pots and a wide selection of tasty beverages.

DJs Agent Orange vs Huge, Zero Hour vs Right Now, and Lephrenic vs His Inner Demons present a selection of broken basslines and rumbling ambient beats.

Horse Bazaar - 397 Little Lonsdale, Melbourne. Between Elizabeth and Queen. 8pm, no door charge. Valet service for migrants.

We're most privileged this week to be hosting one of the founding members of Australian hip hop scene, DJ Krisy. It's my good friend Kim's 26th birthday, and a lot of Heavyweight crew will be in the house... hence the Heavyweight DJ.

8pm-late, with Lephrenic and myself, should be a special one.

Image DJ Krisy (Zulu Nation member) was born in Melbourne Australia and her fascination with the hip hop culture began in the early 80s. Krisy embarked the culture with the elements of graffiti and breakdancing. Then, throughout 1989-1996, Krisy made a name for herself over the airwaves. Steppin’ to the AM was the show, 106.7 PBS FM was the station. The success of the show prompted Krisy to enter into the 1997 DMCs, making history as the first Australian female to compete. She gained an impressive third place. As an aspiring turntablist, Krisy began to receive offers to do DJ supports. Del, Q Bert, Company Flow and People Under The Stairs as well as local Melbourne artists like Bias B, Pac, Reason, Def Wish Cast, etc.... and, soon formed her resume.

Between gigs, she became involved in community youth workshops with local rappers She Kat and Lil G. In 1999 they staged a hip hop inspired musical called Bass Anger. In 2005, Krisy got behind the scenes as a stage manager working on Heavyweight. She also got the privilage to interview celebrity actor/rapper Ice T. In the works, is a mixtape of pure hip hop blends soon to hit the shelves. Krisy will also be entering with DJ Smitten-DMC Team Battle. Both Krisy & DJ Smitten are part of an all female crew called Ladiesluv which comprises of female emcee's, B Girls and graffiti artists. Check your local guide and you’ll be able to check Dj Krisy around town.
