Melbourne Beats meetz MySpace
so I got invited to join this myspace group called 'left v.s right fight club'
realising that joining this group would be another blow to my mental health I descided against it, but I did have a browse. My god it was frusterating, the pinacle of my frusteration was this guys ranting> check him out
http://www.myspace.com/homeland_ar15 <<check him out
Browsing through his blogs and pictures and all his mates who are the same, made me very sad, angry, depressed They really love war, and violence, and guns, and bush.

The rubber plant was surprised. If the rubber plant could have spoken, it wouldn't have said anything. That's how surprised the rubber plant was.
It seams on reading this thread that heaps of people have the same problem I do. I can't seem to set it up very well. Some people have pages that look really cool with all sorts of backgrounds etc etc.... Do you have to earn the right to do that or some shit?

um it's a good question but I know the statement can't be true.
display media only accounts for approx of 35% of online advertising total.
Myspace would be dwarfed in terms of ad revenue by AOL and Yahoo! and MSN ... not to mention Google, Overture (YSM) etc
My Space wouldn't have the same user numbers as a Yahoo! or MSN globally ... I will try adn find out at work tomorrow as now I'm curious to get the specifics!

Social networking site MySpace has grown to 60 million members, adding 8 million to 10 million new members in the last few months alone, and now accounts for around 12.5 percent of all online display ads. But major brand marketers continue to shun the site.

except myspace doesn't force an email address on yashepherd wrote:i don't think that is the case.
i agree flickr is a better example of functionality, but myspace doesn't get relative share for other reasons.
still, you could argue that myspace does in fact rule the internet - higher growth than any other site and phenomenal reach ...
funnily enough i've met this dude and he's actually a really cool guy and a good dj (if you like hip hop/rnb). shockin' photo thofooishbar wrote:http://www.myspace.com/djleonsmith

there are forums on it, you obviously like forums. I've discovered numerous music talents, had very interesting discusions about all sorts of things from physics to music, to volkswagen repeairs. There are alot of fucken social retards on there, but you there are cool people scattered around.Hardy wrote:i still don't really 'get' myspace.

the problem I have with MySpace, pretty much as Lynt said, is more that the site is shockingly designed and operates in a very clunky manner. it's a real pain the arse to use the majority of features.
that said, they've been improving the code behind the site apparently and are planning a whole lot of new features. I'm surprised that the site blew up so quickly, but having that kind of content and features (i.e. giving people the ability to post their own content and link to others) without being a specific type of website (i.e. dating, etc) was all it took.
..and of course, if that's all that is needed to generate that kind of growth then it'll be overtaken by next lot of websites that do it better. hopefully very soon.

i think it will be hard for anyone to overtake myspace in that 'space' ... cos it has the volume of users and that is what is appealing.
It's like msn messenger - not the best product on the market, but the biggest due to the amount of people that use it. (ie why use Talk or Y! when 1/2 yr mates aren't on it)

true, but MySpace started small. if the timing is right, it can be overtaken. I'd just prefer to see sites like Flickr et al do well - compared to clunky, borked abominations like MySpace.shepherd wrote:i think it will be hard for anyone to overtake myspace in that 'space' ... cos it has the volume of users and that is what is appealing.

orkut could've been myspace, except it started as an underground nerd/brazilian movement, not an underground emo movement. that and it seems to be incredibly badly written. always falling over.

last I checked, AIM was orders of magnitude bigger in the US than MSN, but for the same reason: so many people used AOL that AIM just kinda followed.shepherd wrote:It's like msn messenger - not the best product on the market, but the biggest due to the amount of people that use it. i'm really hoping google talk will really take off (gmail is already there ...). if there's one thing http, smtp, imap, and, more recently, sip (in a very big way) have shown, it's that open protocols rock. and jabber/xmpp is open and very extensible. go jabber!shepherd wrote:btw - msn and Y! will become compatible with eachother mid year which will be interesting.
