My BU is finally getting AGU poster presentation done and dusted. However supervisor has already pissed off overseas, promising to send last-minute data from Canada to possibly add?

Have you finished PhD thesis?

Re: The Big Up Thread
Haha, you can probably track these answers in this very thread! PhD, yes (at Melbourne - am currently a postdoc in stupid Oklahoma). I'm applying mainly in the US, but only really because that's where the vast majority of the work is. I've also applied to handful of places in Canada, the UK and Israel, though.spazz wrote:Are you looking at research groups in the US only or everywhere?

You angling for academia?
On topic: BU getting a very positive response to a "Hi, do you remember me, my research plan is rad, give me a job" email. Straws. Clutching. But still. Now to wait out the next couple of months until I hear anything else...

Re: The Big Up Thread
Hell no, climate change research is ma thing. I am a few years behind still doin PhD. IPCC is my ultimate goal. Thought there would be quite a few groups in Europe or do they prefer bilinguals? I want to avoid the US as much as possible. Canada however...sweet!retzie wrote:Haha, you can probably track these answers in this very thread! BU's random international phone call confirming the population of Australia because of a drunken argument. lol.
Re: The Big Up Thread
BU sneaker VICTORY! One of only 600 pairs and I had thought they didn't even make 'em in my size and they were only being sold in-store in states I don't live in, so triple VICTORY. ZOMG, so excited.
I understand this wanting to avoid the US business (I was like that), but there are some fairly hefty advantages that everyone always neglects to mention. The NSF is fucking brilliant: genuinely set up to support scientific endeavour from the ground up. Also, the attitude towards universities and research in the States is extremely positive. Ya don't really clock tall poppy syndrome until you're in its absence. It's sad how much education, academia and research are actively mistrusted in Australia
Nope, not much happening in my field in Europe. There's a few people in the general area, but the only person I'm interested in working with is at bloody Oxford. Pity, coz I'm a-ok on the language front.spazz wrote:Thought there would be quite a few groups in Europe or do they prefer bilinguals? I want to avoid the US as much as possible. Amick has a strong aversion to power lunches.
You'd be surprised how much better lunch is with a bit of POWER!!!!!!!!
