BU first run in a loooooong time going much better than expected. It's been months and months and months, but managed 5km in a reasonable time, easy-peasey. Apparently walking everywhere with a gabillionty-seven kilo backpack keeps you from becoming a total waddler. O'course, the first one is always easiest, but still...
BU spring break - one whole week off!
BU/eek my mum coming to visit next week. First time in 'merica, hates 'mericans. Should be good.

Dancing is banned in all clubs here! Some apply for licenses for particular events, but on the whole, dancing is FORBIDDEN! Makes it that much more fun in some ways. hehe.
edit: oh, and everything shuts at 11pm.

Dancing has teh banz??
I realised the other day that I haven't been dancing since October . Everything here is house or (cheesy) dubstep. Rock, hard place. Mebbe I need to work on my appreciation of house...?

Big lolz at the ridiculous hipsters to be found in my neighbourhood. Latest: the full open-necked shirt, dirty moustache, old-style glasses get-up, and the motherfucker is a ZUMBA INSTRUCTOR

Went dancing to some techno last night. Nice to have a li'l rave, but fuck me, that shit gets boring. Any of youse (nic?) into house? Care to tell me which of these would be least shit? Kthxbai

retzie would hate 6th borough IMO
i reckon the only thing on there you would rate retzie would be modeselektor tbh
steve bug would be boring tech house.

Steve Bug is rad... however, that and the gig you mentioned James were last weekend
It was the Steve Bug gig I went to on the weekend. His name rang a bell, but I had no idea what he makes/plays - I just needed to gtfo of the house. If he was the one I think he was, his set was marginally less boring that the other ones, but serially, we're talking mebbe 4 tunes that would've made me dance if I weren't on a mission to not stop moving.
Modeselektor is go, but hopefully will find other tings before then. I'm going a bit mental not having any kind of friends/social life and all I can think to do (apart from drinking) is music.
nic wrote:retzie would hate 6th borough IMO
Chicago has no beats scene of any kind, so I'm trying a new strategy of convincing myself to like house. Reckon it's going to be a whole lot of shit I hate, tbh, but I've gotta at least try...
Wish I had a "Play some breaks" t-shirt.

Yar, I'm kinda getting that vibe, since I somehow still know most of the tracks on NSB
But still - DnB, not-shit hip hop?? I do not dig dubstep for dancing. Even setting aside the fact that those are the gigs chicks in bikinis go to here (serially, WTF?), it just doesn't make me wanna dance. Secret house music that I've never heard and magically like seems to be my best hope.
NFI about crack TBH. Still living the Oklahoma meth dream

BU finally getting proper earplugs. As lolz would have it, the closest place to me is the bloke who makes in-ear shizz for possibly everybody who has ever stepped onto a stage. For cereal, the Stones to fucken Beyonce. Felt like a total retard going there, but it is down the road and they only cost 250 bucks
Oh, also BU acing the hearing test

Ohhhhhhhhhhh, why didn't someone tell me underground is where the party's at??
Went to Modeselektor - music was good, but I didn't realise it was an official 'show', which mean headliners at 11am, lights-up at 1am. While everyone was milling around wondering what to do next, some chick decided to pick a fight with me ( ) - apparently I had been dancing with her husband. Fair lolz, considering (a) I can't actually dance with anyone even if I try (:shuffler:) and (b) I hadn't been near any blokes all night. Talking to some randoms in the hopes of escaping her led to an invite to the raev, which was pretty good. Best laz0rz I've seen anywhere here. The smoke can fuck right off, though, and I could do without the dodgy as fuck neighbourhood where cabs are never to be found. But apart from that, got a solid 6 or so hours of dancing and have some new friends
BU feeling much less like a sad old cat lady*
*except for actually having a cat.

For sure. I'm more than happy to go out on my own, but when you can't even hear about parties without knowing people, you are all kinds of fucked. Shithouse system, imo. Excited to have an in now, though!

BU another rad night dancing
Legit show this time, put on by various Burning Man crews. Music started off a bit naff, but kicked off later on. Generally, I'm not an MC person, but fuck me, MC Zulu absolutely killed it. Am I really, really slow for not already knowing about him?? Also discovered there is not-fruity house I actually like. Thank fuck for that! I didn't think an entire city could be obsessed with completely shithouse music...
In other news, I have a minor ethical dilemma. Is it bad that I have given my number to boys (when asked), pretty much just because I want to hear about parties? It's not like I've made it look like I'm interested... Stoopid secret gigs system!

Raved out kitten. In a party hat.
In other news, BU getting more fit - I can eat so many things now!!! Small downs to needing to find enough things to eat.
BU mebbe making friends with my coffee peeps . Bonding has been assisted by their hiring possibly the nerdiest man in the world. We get to take turns trying not to laugh when he totally nerds out:
"So, here, I'm brewing the recent WORLD champion winning aeropress brew. <Some nerdlinger I don't remember> just won the WORLD championship with this brew last week. You really should slurp it quickly, so it aerates and hits the back of your tongue <slurps very loudly, every sip>. Here, would you like to try it?"
Wtf, there's an aeropress world championship? The coffee was shite (even he admitted it, so it wasn't just my inability to slurp correctly when trying not to giggle at everyone behind him pissing themselves). He carefully wrote the specs down in his little coffee notebook and classed it as a fail. Never fear, he is persevering :tallyho:

deviant wrote:I <3 aeropress....

I eat sandwiches pretty much every day. That doesn't mean I think there should be a world sandwich championship...
In other news, glowstick man kept texting - mainly random, inconsequential questions. A 3:1 vote among my mates deemed this a bit fucken weird, so words were had*. Fuckit, guess I'll have to find out about these parties some other way
*Matter of fact ones, which seemed to go okay.

Not saying I'm not! Tbh, I have absolutely no idea how anything works. I was beginning to wonder if a bunch of random text messages is how people get to know each other these days...? Erred on the side of caution since I wasn't really into it regardless, but still felt mean.
In other news, I am planning on asking beardy nerd man whether he thinks coffee may be better taken via a neti pot. This will no doubt lead to marriage and happily ever after

Heh, I'm glad they are at least vaguely entertaining. They are excellent for those times when people try to ask about whether you've met anyone winkwink. "Lemme tell you about the last boy who got my number..."
