But mrj, we're not talking about clubs FINISHING at 2am, just not letting more people in after 2am.

But even still, as deviant says, inevitably after 2am more and more people end up on the street because some of their mates didn't get in or whatever... the only thing that would fix it would be a bigger police presence, but that would fix it without the lockouts anyway.

I don't want to have to deal with a streetload of drunken wankers when leaving a venue. That puts me as a passive citizen in more risk I would say, at least when in venues they are under the watch of bouncers.
The floor of Crown Casino, restaurants and clubs such as RSL clubs will be exempt from the lockout restriction.
Lame..

misunderstanding. THere is no pass outs at Revolver after 2am.
Ah.. that makes sense.

Why will we get decent start times again?

If anything it'll push all starting times to 2am

2am lock outs suck.... well I have only had a 3am lock out... got there at 3.04 and had to stand out on the streets of Shep with all the other angry trashies that had no where to go.

That's a good point. It will mean maximum profits for a venue that has a late license and puts on dance parties. ie. if you start a gig earlier, it finishes early and it's less likely that people will hang out afterwards as lots of people usually leave after main act. thus if you start the main act later, people usually arrive, drink for a while and also stay for the main act. so you get maximum drinking time in your venue.

Also if the main act finishes after 2am there is no option to drink anywhere else.

this from the comments on the theage.com.au story
This is the type of regulation people from Victoria really need. There should be a curfew on the whole state - home in bed asleep by 7pm, the whole lot of you!

absolutely ridiculous..imo
still to this day i have not seen a big fight in Melbourne, i know because i dont go out to those spots (russel/chapel /king etc).. why should we now have to suffer because the small group of dickheads or maybe a large group...
i dont smoke ciggarettes either!! but not being able to smoke a spliff after 2 will certainly make me aggresive..hahaa

i do agree that more violence has been occuring recently and all factors mentioned above can be taken as a possible reason... but locking people in the street after 2am will NOT solve the problem..may only increase it, well thats kind of what we would all be hoping for, no!?

Won't really affect me.

I don't smoke, and don't make a habit of hitting up fresh venues after 2am.

I'll be interested to see if this reduces the human bile and carrot pieces spewing out of the clubs near my place.

Seen a glassing, a head being kicked in and what looked like an attempted rape (boy-boy). The worst one was after the bond bar brawl... 25-30 guys beneath my place, 5-6 of them kicking a prostrate dude in the head. Fuzz turned up about 15 secs later and they vamoosed.... some running to hide in nearby car-park. Was gripping viewing but would prefer to see it on idiot box not from my window every satdee.

Hey I've got this dumb idea:

if you had a warehouse party and people got a freedrink with entry
would you need a licence ?

what if entry was $5 and you could enter asmany times as you liked ?

is that the cutest loophole idea in history.

or just somthing they could still fist you for??

youll have more trouble with residents than liquor lisencing imo.

i have many years of warehouse party experience, evey 'cute' lopphole we have done, and more.

the climate isnt the same now, and I am not willing to get thousands of dollar fines to put on events.

We still didn't determine what time qualifies as "the next day" rather than the same night. I'm horrified at the idea that I might not be able to head to Revolver at 7am after one club finishes. I don't do it often, but I like that freedom. If I really still feel like I need to go to Revolver at 7am, seriously, dude, I REALLY NEED to go to Revolver. :)

They trailed this in Adelaide a few years ago and it didn't work.

Mainly because everyone goes to bed early anyway :p

Nah, all it did was make the violence go out onto the street. Instead of groups fighting groups, it was randoms getting caught up in it.

IMHO the reason there has been a rise in Melbourne is two-fold - more people coming into the city anyway - more people means more fuckwits.

And the fact that smoking is no longer available in clubs, forcing people to congregate in the one place.

we should come up with an acurate way of assesing "fuckwitness" and put an actual curfew on these people.... like a neck band tazer that shocks them if they aren't at home by 10pm.

I dont' hang out in places where there are fckwits.
I've never seen a fight in a club in melbourne (expt once, just pushing at the lounge) Maybe my Clubs and hangouts should be exempt?

Jebus. This doesn't even work in Hobart where there really isn't a huge population to speak of. Getting a taxi is a freaking nightmare.

I'm going to have to relocate to Europe again I think.

So, at what point does it become 'the following day' in respect to letting patrons in?

If I were to rock up to Revolver at 9am on a Saturday morning could you classify that as a new day? I'll have just got out of bed, obviously. ;)

Or tasers for us. I know Gnat wants one with mp3 function.

I'd love to taser some of the hair-gelled footyteams who are taking out their pent-up homosexuality on each other.

Or we could lock them in an arena and give them all tasers and screen the footage in the big brother time slot with benny-hill theme music playing in the background.

Ok I go now.
