I remember

-staring at the ads for sea monkeys for hours on end
-trying to teach wood lice to skip rope using a rubber band
-Playing Donkey Kong at the deli after school
-White Knights ('the big minty chew')... did they shrink that shit as I grew up??
-Rescuing baby birds after storms
-The time my mum tried to resuscitate a rosella I rescued from the neighbor's swimming pool by putting it in the microwave on 'defrost' FA1L.
I wanted to be a hero. I wanted to be the center of attention. I wanted the glory, I wanted the fame. I wanted the pretty girls to come up and say, "Hi, I see that you're good at Centipede."

I remember when our chickens made babies and we read in some hippy book to use tea tree oil to get rid of mites and lice, and me and my mom put one drop on his head and then had to watch as his brain cooked from the outside in.
the hippy book forgot to say 'one drop in a BUCKET of water", and we cried and felt like hitler.

The poor Gold Medal delivery dude used to live about a block away. We'd go to his house about 1am fri/sat nights and jump his front fence and pass crates of the shit out to the person on the outside and all come home with a crate of GM's. Then one day he cottoned on....Went round there standard grabbed all the crates we could carry (1 crate each) and finally made it just a street away and put all the crates down for a rest and drink stop...that delivery guy was a smart man...anyone remember a GM flavour called "chinoto"? :SPEW: well the prick had left his truck full of them for us to steal! man prob knew we wouldnt drink it either it was truly horrible so we ended up piffing full bottles onto the street and watch em explode.

When we were kids we thought that cinnoto flavour was made from turd juice... we couldn't work out why you'd bother. All these awesome flavours, red, and green and orange, and then the poo-brown anus-flavour.

Yeah, I was feeding the neighbour's dog while they were on hols and I found the rosella. I took it home and wrapped it up and it was recovering when my mum came over to see it. I thought mum knew best (I learned pretty quickly that mine is wrong most of the time... but that's another story), so when she said she was just going to put it in to warm it up and I was hesitant, she reassured me that she would only put it on 'defrost'.

It came out milky-eyed, cooked and stiff as a board.

i remember living on a street that had a swamp at the end of it and catching mud crabs. Also those slater things and building houses out of ice cream containers. also the big tunnels that were at the end of the street and finding frogs and rats and all sorts of stuff down there. > which reminds me of being let out of the house to explore the world without adult supervision.

i also remember having a bikey gang (i was 6 at the time, thought we were hell cool), and i was the only girl.

i remember one of my mum's boyfriends kids putting me on a skate board and pushing me down a hill and then he had to come get me cos i rolled too far, and passed the other brother who was suppose to catch me.

i remember the 1c and 2c lollies. And 1c and 2c coins!

I remember how far $1 of mixed lollies actually got you - oh, the patience of the milk bar ladies as you ogled the variety of lollies, pointing out very clearly which ones you wanted, and in what (miniscule) quantity. Also, sunny boys, BMXes, talking about that new show "The Simpsons" that was on over the weekend, getting one of the crap toy skateboards for my birthday that came in a colourful box instead of one of the proper cool ones, clear cola, the smell of my school bag (vegemite sandwiches and rotten banana, with a hint of mud), the stock Aussie public school metal drinking taps that you could wet + rub the tops of to make them resonate loudly until the teachers told you to stop it), The Arvo Show/Agro/Marty the monster, spending an awful lot of time under houses/behind sheds/in the garden poking around, playing with matches (hot box!!!), supersoakers, the crap chewing gum that used to come with collector cards like AFL/Garbage Pale kids, slap bands which got banned for slicing too many wrists, yoyos, marbles, oh and skivvies.
