Too Much! Launch Night FT SEVEN (UK) & GRAVIOUS (UK) APRIL 4

Post by Too Much! »

Too Much! is Melbourne's newest dubstep night, bringing dubstep weight to the punters. Hosted by Melbourne's champion reggae/dub soundsystem, Heartical HiFi, Too Much! showcases dubstep the way it was meant to be heard: with loads of bass weight. Too Much! aims to showcase the full range of dubstep, from the most insane bassline bangers to the deepest meditation.

Too Much! launches on Saturday April 4th upstairs at Brown Alley with a huge lineup: Seven and Gravious, both from the UK, as well as our very own Flippo.

Seven has releases forthcoming on Tempa, arguably the original dubstep imprint, as well as Australia's own Aquatic Lab, and is touring to promote LAB004 (Drop/The Darkness), which is out in shops now. Seven brings a turntablist approach to mixing, and the hype when he teases a tune in before double-dropping it instantly is unstoppable.

Gravious has releases on the much-respected Hotflush and Scuba labels, showcasing a much deeper approach to the dubstep sound.

Flippo always brings the quality, with releases on Pressing Issues and a remix of AC23's Love Her on Formant Recordings.

Between them, our residents AC23, Same O, Fooishbar and Derek Heartical have supported nearly every quality act in town.

Too Much! is at Brown Alley on Saturday April 4th, pre-sale tickets $25 + booking fee.

Ed Berry A.K.A. Seven / Eddy Woo Bio

Image

Ed’s musical journey started in the late eighty's in London U.K. through learning the art of mixing and locking his first DJ set at the ripe old age of 13.

It was shortly after this, a brief encounter with Shimon and Andy C influenced Ed to steer down the production path. Initially in 1995 he released a three track E.P on Dubtronix Records under the guise of DJ Reflex. Throughout the following years Ed built a studio and honed both his production & DJ skills.

In mid 2003 High Lite Recordings released Tsunami setting the ball rolling for a busy release schedule that has spanned the last five years. Alongside High Lite Recordings, Ed, under the moniker Eddy Woo, signed releases to Frequency, Generation X, Liquid V & Bad Company. Furthermore Eddy Woo productions were common place on top shelf DJ mix CD’s, including Andy C’s ‘Nightlife’ and Bad Company’s ‘Bad Taste’ series.

At the beginning of 2007 Ed started his own imprint, Subculture Records to showcase high calibre future thinking Drum & Bass. 2007 also saw Ed expand and develop his production techniques, eventually leaning towards a more down tempo sound.

Under the pseudonym of Seven his productions were let loose onto the Dubstep scene with air play from Mary Anne Hobbs aswell as being on high rotation during many Rinse FM sets. Most importantly his productions became a major component in many a set from DJ’s Ntype & Youngsta, through to Benga & Skream.

To kick of 2009 'Siren’, ‘Drop’ and ‘The Darkness’ were released on Tempa and Australia’s Aquatic Lab imprints respectively. With forthcoming material on Shy Fx’s Digital Soundboy, another release on Aquatic Lab, not too mention a covert signing to Chase & Status’s brand new label things are certainly shaping up for one of London’s most sought after producer / DJ talents.

Andy C……. “I don’t know another DJ in the industry who practises as much as Eddy Woo”

Gravious Bio

Image

Gravious a.k.a. Ali Jackson is an up-and-coming Dubstep producer based in Glasgow, Scotland. With 4 releases under his belt through the HotFlush record label - on both the main label and the Scuba sub-label – and a warm reception from critics and punters alike, he is currently taking a live show out on the road.

Ali started making music in 2001 after being shown the basics of DIY production by a friend. After experimenting in a variety of styles, he was converted to the fresh sounds of Dubstep, Dark Garage and Broken Beat after hearing the selections of DJs such as J Da Flex and Femme Fatale in early 2004. From this starting point, he quickly discovered the bass-heavy productions of Kode9, Digital Mystikz, Horsepower, Skream, Groove Chronicles and Ghost – and was instantly hooked. Taking inspiration from these sounds, Gravious also brought in elements from his wider musical tastes in both electronic and traditional music to add new perspectives. Artists most inspirational to him include The Future Sound of London, Boards of Canada, Radiohead, LTJ Bukem, Kyuss, Aphex Twin, and Autechre.

In Early 2007 he played the first ‘live’ laptop set of his own material during the Triptych music festival in Edinburgh. 2008 saw a him hit venues across the UK, as well as a handful of European cities. With a variety of releases in the pipeline and a series of live dates lined up in Australia, 2009 looks set to be another big year!

We regret that the show has been cancelled due to anomalies in the space-time continuum. Brown Alley has stepped one hour out of phase with the natural world, causing MrJ's head to explode. The alley has since been renamed Fudge Tunnel and a memorial concert will be held soon, hosted by all surviving members of Wham.
