Re: The Photo Thread (Post yours here)
was quite tough this year, i think i like my shots this year, they are growing on me
Canon Photo 5 comp -
Brief 1 - Eye Dropper//Close-Up. This brief is asking you to use your lens to look closer. Use the eye dropper to place drops of liquid in any arrangement you want. You can use a single drop, or as many drops as you like.
Brief 2 - Bubble Gum//Portraiture. This brief has one rule: feature bubble gum in a portrait. How you or your subject use the bubble gum is up to you. If you need more gum, visit your friendly local convenience store.
Brief 3 - Incense//Black & White. This is a moody brief. Use smoke from the incense to create ambience and atmosphere in a black and white photo. It’s not just about shooting smoke, but capturing the essence of black and white photography in a dramatic way.
Brief 4 - Confetti//Capturing Motion. This brief is a bit of a celebration. Your task is to capture the confetti in motion. You can use the confetti we’ve included or any kind you want. If you need more add as much as you want. It’s about motion, so your image must convey a sense of movement.
Brief 5 - Inspired by Sound//Open Brief. This brief is about your creative interpretation of a sound. The task is to listen to the sound bite at the link below, and create a photo inspired by it – using any technique you want.
The Portfolio//All Briefs. This year we are awarding a prize to the photographer with the best set of 5 photos. To be eligible you must enter a photo for every brief.

hmm, it's hard to say really ... maybe if you had a darker background, the smoke would stand out a lot more clearly? at the moment everything's kind of a light grey so it all blends in. i think i like the flat hand one the best tho!

Re: The Photo Thread (Post yours here)
yeah i think i need a darker background too, but then getting enough light for the camera to take the shot is also tricky. i have another shot at home i did that stands out better, i might take another look at it.
thanks for the tip!

Re: The Photo Thread (Post yours here)
hmmmm i have no idea tbh babe. prices always depends on what they are being used for, and the circulation etc...
you could maybe google rates for images for textbook publications or something?
i reckon Mr Lob would be the best person to ask at a guess?

Re: The Photo Thread (Post yours here)
ahhh good suggestions! Just did some searches and getting various amounts.
Just spoke to our marketing department and they pay around $200 for an image they want.
these are the specs they have given me:
Non-exclusive (you would not lose rights to your photo)
World rights (they do send a small percentage of the books abroad)
English + 2 languages (sometimes translated into different languages)
Print/Electronic rights (e-books)
33,750 print run
i am thinking i might ask for $150-200 and see what they say. If they are not happy to pay that i will back down to $100. easy
exciting i must say, now i am on a website in Poland, and soon to be in a publication in California. Noice!
