Deekline
Deekline is that rare figure in dance music, the seminal producer who has successfully maintained underground cache while making regular raids into the mainstream. This is the artist who brought you I Don't Smoke, the hyper-dope UK garage-breaks hybrid that broke the British top 20 back in 1999 and last year blew up all over again thanks to a 10-year anniversary re-release with a variety of new reworkings from top producers such as Utah Saints, Tim Healey and Crissy Criss (as well as Deekline himself). Yet he also works tirelessly to push street level bass music artists like London's Ivory and Shystie via the six record labels which he currently oversees: Sludge, Hot Cakes, Jungle Cakes, Booty Breaks, Rat Records and Giant Pussy Records. Having worked with or remixed the cream of the cream when it comes to electronic dance music, including the likes of DJ Assault, Fast Eddie, Kid Sister and Freq Nasty, this is a producer with his finger right on the button, and in a wide variety of musical pies. For many he's best known for throwing down bassbin-rattling peaktime joints, such as his dancehall vibed ghetto house anthem Bring It Back, alongside Healey, his partner in the Giant Pussy Records imprint. Yet he's also capable of moments of sublime, understated elegance in the shape of Angels, the soulful and cerebral cut from his critically acclaimed 2009 album with engineering maestro Wizard, Back Up, Coming Through.
Just as content jetting off to distant corners of the globe to bring his booty-shaking, genre-straddling style to fresh audiences as he is shutting himself away in his London studio to lock down the latest heavy jam, Deekline will be spinning his unique and iconic brand of bass music in the hottest of clubs across Australia, Canada, Europe and America in 2010 as part of the biggest world tour of his career. Witnessing this groundbreaking DJ do his thing in the flesh is a rare, genuine must-see experience: a chance to catch a figure right at the apex of the thriving indie-dance scene. This is an artist who's always ahead of the game when it comes to the latest sounds, and generally most comfortable when confronted with a set of turntables and the chance to get his scratch on, usually to the delight of the crowd. A Deekline gig is a maelstrom of heaving bodies, booming low end and spectacular energy behind the decks: if he's in your area, make sure you're ready to represent.
CntrlZ
Ctrl Z are a dance production duo hailing from London. Bursting on the scene in 2005, they have since become known for their unique brand of break beat infused electro – punk. The Early Years… Tommy Dash and Nicky ‘Inch’ D’Silva, met through the Community Music Program in London. The pairing up of these two DJs by their tutor was to be the start of something special and Ctrl Z's first production was unleashed. Snapped up by Funkatech Recordings, 'Disko' and 'Pain' blasted their way straight into the boxes of the elite and paved the way for the duos illustrious career thus far. They have over 40 releases and remixes under their belts on respected labels such as Against the Grain, Lot49, Botchit & Scarper, Passenger, Functional, Rat Records and Hardcore Beats. It is no surprise that after only a year in the business, Ctrl Z had the honor of receiving two nominations for Best Breakthrough Act and Best Breakthrough Producer at the 2005 Breakspoll Awards. Dash & Inch continued to receive praise and support from some of the biggest players in the scene, remixing and working alongside stalwarts such as The Freestylers, Tayo, Atomic Hooligan, Dreadzone and Dylan Rhymes amongst others.
Headlining events all over the world, their DJ sets have to be seen to be believed. Ctrl Z were the first Breaks act to be signed exclusively to the renowned Echo Location Agency where they were given the honor of supporting Pendulum their first ever live tour. In 2007 they were one of the main drawcards in Annie Nightingale’s Tent on the Opening night of the infamous Glastonbury festival and became residents at the legendary End club for DJ Friction's Shogun Audio Night. 2009 and Beyond….Never Say Die Always looking to take things to the next level, Ctrl Z have started their own label as an outlet for their ever changing and uncompromising sound: 'Never Say Die Records'. Launching the imprint with their much sought after collaboration with the Freestylers ‘Ruffneck 09’, the label is already making waves, with releases and remixes from artists such as Foreign Beggars, Reso, Excision & Datsik and of course the boys themselves. The label is a reflection of the diversity of modern dance music, catch Ctrl Z in 2010 and experience the sound of Never Say Die.
Skool Of Thought
Living between the UK and Australia, Skool Of Thought is the owner and label manager behind the award winning Against The Grain & SuperCharged Music record labels - home to the likes of the Freestylers, Krafty Kuts, Splitloop, Ed Solo and of course Skool Of Thought. He is the guy responsible for the enormous Groove Armada 'Superstylin' and Freestylers v Pendulum 'Painkiller' breaks remixes. He has appeared on the front cover of 3D magazine in Australia, described by IDJ magazine as 'an underrated genius' and recognized by DJ magazine as helping form the 'nu skool breaks' scene. He has produced countless breakbeat monsters over the years including Heavyweight Breaks Volumes 1 & 3, Breakspoll 3, numerous 12" singles and is currently celebrating the success of his debut artist album with Ed Solo entitled 'Random Acts Of Kindness'. To top it all off he has just launched a third label called 'Cool & Deadly' with Tayo. Phew! Time to take a lesson from Skool...
