i've tried doing that have a sleep bizness and then head out at midnight- failed x 3. just woke up grouchy and tired. need to be out already having drinks with mates to be in the headspace and then head to gig.
knowing it's all wrapped up by 1 or 2 is a major drawcard. i'm old!!

Yeah, I would probably prefer this to finish up at 1 or 2.

I dont understand why gigs have to go through to 5 or 6.

Yeah cool all the pingerz n shit but you could just get on them early.

seriously... you guys are failing to understand...

If a promoter put on a gig that starts at 8 and goes to 2 it would fail miserably.. :FACT:

there's no way that anyone is going to be able to cater for you guys without losing out and losing money.

We've struggled for 5 years to get people to come out before 12, and it still hardly ever happens tbh

I remember afternoon gigs in the early days of La Di Da - they were a fucken embarrassment. Apparently, no-one will dance during the daylight hours. Can't remember who was playing the one I'm thinking of, but it was a pretty big name and everyone was outside smoking :?. Bad for the venue, bad for the punters, baaaaaad for the city's reputation. I totally back the promoters on this one.

PS. My entire gig-going career has been stone cold sober, including putting in 7-10 hours dancing at the good 'uns. Harden the fuck up!

There is an almighty assumption that dance music requires getting totally fuckeyed and I've had enough conversations with reformed fuckeyed-ists to know that wanting to lay off it has meant their alienation from the scene. I think that's sad, so yeah, I'm going to mention that it's possible to enjoy gigs without teh rugs.

I don't give the slightest fuck what anyone chooses to do with themselves - I wish that worked both ways...

anyone been reading how youngsters these days are being pressured to drink so bad that they are shunned if they choose not to? outcasts.

not just youngsters though, this country treats sober partygoers worse than those in wheelchairs or with limbs actually missing. i experience it too, so now i drink soda with lime & pretend its vodka if i have lots to do the next day.

just sayin.

thankyou, yes, that equation works for me.

if someone here wants to put on an "over 30's" event in the afternoon, or even the morning, with a champagne/croissant breakfast & some quality tunes (as in, not just anthems from the things-were-better-when-we-were-ravers-in-the-90's only) and can guarantee said shitload of punters to support, i'll gladly remove the current indie night of 18-25's every friday and then we can all get some fuckin beauty sleep.

k?

I don't mind what you do with yourself either. Just don't think it needs to be mentioned. The fact that people feel that they need drugs to attend a gig is symptomatic of the fact that the large majority of the people have minimal interest in the music and maximum interest in the party.

Well the drugs have been shit for ages, so honestly, I do not agree with that at all.
Most of the punters I know and see coming out here & other big gigs around town are actually here for the music/crew and not getting munted anymore.

the days of :tard: being the norm at electronic music events are pretty much over imho.

Not at all Dan. Just don't like it when people feel like they have to state their position - those that do and those that don't. Just do what you want and don't justify it or celebrate it.

I'm glad to hear it GK. As someone who was always there for the music that makes me happy.

I hardly think Retzie was celebrating it, just saying she still goes out & has fun & has for a long time without aids.

as in, without enebriations, not HIV.

I could have said something anodyne like "It is possible to go out and have fun without drugs," but what does that mean? As an abstract concept, it is easy to say, easy to ignore. I thought that maybe by putting my hand up (particularly given the prevailing attitude that GK mentioned), it might make it a concrete fact to think about.

It's not like I prance up to strangers and tell them this. However, if it's relevant to a conversation, I might mention it. Given people here actually know me a bit, I'd like to think it would be taken in context.

You'll be getting to the people celebrating drug taking in this thread next, I take it?

NO!!
a couple is 2.
only 2.
no more, no less.
2.
also, what about 4.
that is just a couple of couples.
then is 8-9 people a few and a couple?

What if I had 2 wives - would the 3 of us constitute a couple?

Retzie, thanks for the clarification. My original point was that this whole discussion is a hotbed of misunderstanding. Point proven by all (me included). Perhaps I didn't express myself as eloquently as I intended.

Bo & Dan - if either of you knew me more than just as a name you used to see on a message board, you'd understand that you're wide of the mark with you assessment of my position on this discussion and my attitude in general.

It all makes sense, the party people of the last decade spent their 20's partying, now have grown up and have mortgages, and 'cause they spent their money on partying instead of saving, they can only afford outer suburbs.
