My first mixtape, Destroy The Silence Volume One, is what I have been referring to as Electrobreakstep, pulling together some of the electronic genres I like into one convoluted audio concept.
Re: nic please explain this girl
So the MPC style Datfpunk app eh. How long before someone makes an app for the pad that allows you to upload all your own samples etc. Death of the MP for sure right? In fact wont all hardware be able to to be replicated on these gadgets? 303, 808 etc - why can't you just have it all on a pad?
Not to mention new stuff that isn't replicating old gear... gonna change shit up again.
Soon what was considered playing 'live' electronic music back in the day will now be standard. People will rock up with apps full of samples rather than tracks and just have one long progression of beats and bits. It used to take a table full of boxes to make it happen.
I know she is a douche - but surely what it shows is if a douche is able to use the ready made shit - what are artists going to dream up?

Re: nic please explain this girl
so many cringe worthy moments in that video. It's like its satire for people who actually have some idea about audio.
"... you've got a cross fader, so you can switch between this iPad, that iPad... and then put them in the middle and hear both beats together, which is something that I've been doing a lot lately"
What a visionary! I'm surprised DJ's didn't come up with that blatantly rudimentary concept decades ago.
LOL at how shes got the audio going into the interface. A stereo RCA to 1/4 jack line-level output from the mixer into a mono-microphone pre-amp. All while there are perfectly good stereo pair line level inputs on the back of the unit.
"I'm running logic" while there camera zooms in on a laptop that clearly is running Ableton.

I'm inclined to think she does something in promotions and someone saw this as a great way to show cashed up kids how much they could do if they bought more mac apps and hardware. there is something very 'accessible' about it for the prep crowd.
And yes, the possibiltiies for people with talent using this stuff! Imagine R.E.A.D. getting into this shiznit
croaking lizard... jungletasticdubcorebadness (brap brap)
surface resonance... sound and vibration arts (buzz hum)

"now i know..from just..ya know.. playing music, that that is 124.4 BPM for this song..."
Wow really??
Gosh if you can work out BPM to the .4 mark, just from, you know, playing music, then youre a lot smater than i gave you credit for lady!

Rana Sobhany woke up at 5:30am to pre-order her iPad on March 12th, and got in line to pick it up at 2am on April 3rd.
She's been playing music in some form or another since she was 6 and if she could only pick one item to take with her to a deserted island, it would be her iPad.
She is author of Mobilize! Marketing Mobile Content in an iPhone and iPad Era and blogs at iPhoneEra.com.
wow it's amazing that she is so passionate about apple products that she puts this much time and effort into them!
I wonder what she does for her day job? Apple should hire her or something!

I'm surprised Apple hasn't built in something that plays a sample of Steve Jobs saying "Mixed from my Apple iPad" over the audio every 23 bars.

the way she mixes that daft punk track is next level...
although this chick sux, I can kind of see the potential for the ipad in a live audio setup... maybe not like that, but could be quite cool.

God damn Americans are such Americans.
She has it so easy!
When I gigged around in the 80s my setup was all analogue, and in between songs I has cardboard cards with all the settings written down to alter the souns that I would then have to adjust.. Michelle my singer would be standing there have to err, make small talk while I fucked around with LFO and ADSR etc. There was no such stuff as presets etc.. and if it was humid the Pro1's two oscillators would go out of tune, making some crazy ass sounds.. Polyphony? we loved it when you could press more than 4 keys at once and still get a sound.
Just trying to remember the set up.. Roland tb303, sh101, DX7, Pro 1, some shit Roland sampler, Alesis drum machines, yada yada. But it was such a monster, analogue, organic sound that would come outta that. (Yes I know, dx7 was digital..) Now you've got these little pads that do all the work? Sterile.
Fuck that! But I guess there is an argument that if the technology frees you up to concentrate on the music you are producing and composing, then that can't be a bad thing. But how much skill does that take is the question.
Anyways, rant over. Aye, we had it tough!
