Diesel is a law unto himself having broken the rules by learning all he knows about music and production on his own. Coming from the production based background, he has also established himself online as a solid promoter/designer, completing the package needed for musicians in today’s competitive world.

Lol. Appreciate the digs at my self written review. And just for honesty, I didn't write my own about section lol.

But hey, traffic is traffic. And a review wasn't going to write itself lol

I think promoters could learn a lot from internet advertising

Hand out flyers that say

On one hand, modesty certainly counts for something, but on the other I dunno if you can really blame him for trying. I can think of at least a dozen local examples of people who made it simply through the constant projection of an over inflated ego.

This is clearly an era where DJs are judged as highly on their promotional swing, so I suppose if you have enough tickets on yourself and proclaim it often enough people will eventually pulled in.

Anyway what's the difference between this and doing the narcissistic fawning post over an average brand in the hope it comes back in future gigs? I certainly see enough folk on ITM doing that all the time.

Chris, i think it was more a comment on the promotional methods in that thread than Lounge itself.

and the methods in that thread were pretty dubious considering the history most people here have had with the place, thats all.

But they wernt promotional methods. Pete was simply trying to find people intrested in getting involved, and if these forums are not for tryting t give people a Go and get them involved then what is the point. I told him not to mnetion the name cos I knew it would get to this point. If he had said..
ooking for DJs at Lounge on Weds - you allwould have paid out even more!
No?
Maybe i just dont have faith in these forums any more.

No. Then it would have been upfront and honest about where/what was being asked.
nothing more dubious than a promoter asking for djs/promoters for a night that he wont identify, doesnt inspire much confidence etc.
especially when many people have have worked for Lounge and know the drill already. best to be upfront imho.

I would never post on forums in public asking for djs/promoters tbh, it shows desperation, and Carlo used to agree on at least that point so not sure what has changed in the last couple years. I would do my research and approach people directly. but thats just me.

you gotta admit the 'review' is pretty funny!

but let me also make it clear.. I do not agree with the writing of your own review..
there was not mention of the other DJs that played on the night, or really the venue, there just glorified them selfs in a pretty shocking fashon!

Marketing stunt or not.. it is pretty poor.. And this thread had been halarious to read all the payouts!
(and deserved too)..

Fair point miss Kitty.. And this was ALSO my reluctance to post anything, but Pete seemed keen to give it a go..

The review is more than funny!! Its shockingly halarious!

As for the main thread that has sparked much shit towards Pete, I agree.. It can apear desperate, but I also think it shows iniciative from DJs actually chasing it up. .If people resond and follow through on their responses then it shows a strong DJ/promoter.. as opposed to the existing 'known' DJs/promoters who dont promote any more.

But yes better to be upfront.

I guess at the end of the day this was the wrong place for the thread as Melbourne beats Is made up of people who have been in the scene, and the thread was dsigned to spark intrest in new/up and coming DJs.

not to many of them here.

And most have been there and done that.. as you say.

plus, this is a BEAT driven website, so while there are people here who like/play and listen to techno/house/electro/disco and everything on that side of the spectrum...
lounge on wednesday nights is definately not about dubstep/glitch/DnB/hip hop.

so pretty much irrelevant to many here.

I think I should start reviewing some of my own gigs in this style. For nostalgia sake I'll have a practice run on one of the many much loved Bass High nights @ Laundry circa summer '06 (RIP)
Mystery Reviewer wrote:Flippo, who was house sitting his Nan's place in East Brunswick that evening, was burning some CDs in preparation for the night on the laptop in the kitchen. He'd just made some vegetable ratatouille with yoghurt and was contemplating if he should do the dishes before heading out, or just leave it for tomorrow. After ironing some trousers he donned a hoodie and took a quick stroll to lounge where he caught up with Camo, the DJ organising and promoting Bass High to get up to speed on how the new Laundry vibe was to be set into place. Camo was pretty chilled and not that fussed really, no one was there yet anyway. After a couple of beers Flippo set of on foot to grab some 'Quick-Eze' from 7-11.

At 9pm Flippo jumped on the decks to play some dub techno for the first time in a club environment, away from the controlled comfort of the studio. Turns out it's a fucking nightmare to mix Basic Channel without excellent monitoring, and he couldn't even distinguish the hi hats or kick drums from the white noise - so it was an absolute dog's breakfast. All 8 people who were at Laundry at the time were subjected to at least 20 minuets of constant train wrecks before Flippo got a hold of the situation. Being overweight, hairy, and somewhat embarrassed, Flippo was sweating like a fucking rapist. Wasn't a good look at all look tbh.

Some other DJs played some tunes after that, not sure who exactly.

Fast-forward 5 hours and 40 standard drinks, and a wasted Flippo again returned to the decks for a messy back-to-back session with Camo and Spherix. The uni hipsters that strolled in off the street kept requesting aussie hiphop and indie remixes - we basically told them to get fucked and continued to rinse out 05' era dubstep and grime. They still danced anyway.

Flippo had an unnecessary kebab on the way home, and smashed his Nan's antique vase when he stumbled through the door in the morning.

I don't get this. We use the site for everything else. For getting advise of our logos. For asking for people to come up with names for nights. Why not seek out promoters...

Is there anyone that you used to work with Bo that you now don't have a gripe with or try to flame every chance you get?

wow..
Not sure that was her intention.

And Flippo..

ZOMG I'm not sure what the big deal is. Every single self-professed DJ on this board and anywhere else in the world has written their own highly subjective biog in the third person claiming they are the saviour of whatever particular genre they like that week and which titans of the dance world they have supported by carrying their DJ bag once. And if they haven't done that they're self-made tastemakers on some obscure blog which is followed by at least 4 people.

If you dont believe in self-promotion then you've obviously never tried to get a gig/make a name/sell a record/fill a club.

Oh and I also happen to really like Diesel Law's tunes!
