Tool were good at BDO last time, they are always headlining and have all the allowances they need for sound and visuals, saw them in Melbourne and Perth and good show at both festivals. Of course its not going to match their own show but for a BDO show its still done pretty well especially compared to all the other let downs i've had there.

Can't wait for deftones either, its been what 6 or 7 years??? Here's hoping for them to play passenger with Maynard.

it'll take something pretty special (like a free ticket) for me to take the risk on being stuck at something like rainbow for a whole weekend if its not as diverse a sound as everyone makes it out to be

but hey i guess i'm missing out on all the great music/rugs

it is diverse.
this yrs rainbow one night i was curled up/trippin in my tent wish i could go dance to all the awesome dubstep/glitch that was being played all night at redbus stage...
kraddy android p0rn shaking the ground etc

but yeah there's always stuff other than psy going on, plus chillout stage, and in fact there was probably more techno than psy or prog in general. babicz killed it on the final day omg take me back!

lol if you wanna be a proper tightarse just sneak in

if you feel 'stranded' just hitch home. problem solved

agree with kp on diversity......granted alot of the music after dark is psy, but during the day and into the evening you'll hear dub, dubstep, techno, hip hop, polka. allsorts tbh

imho stop being a sook and take it to the rainbow thread :spam2:

maybe i should put this in another thread away from all the neg lol, but nah...

My review of the BDO 2011

work wasn't too bad, got to hand out programs for the first few hours and then ripped tickets for the last hour.

then off to see the bands!

first up saw Washington, she played some nice tunes, kicked off the day nicely. i like her style too! Then over to Andrew W.K. Sounded pretty mental, and they seemed like they were leaving everything on the stage. Drank kick arse slurpies while watching them, which may have made their set even better for me lol. Then over to Bliss n Eso who disappointed me greatly! All i kept thinking is you guys look and act like you're from the Marsh and you have gotten a big head from being overseas (weird combination of behaviour). They kept getting the crowd to say "hell yeah, fuck yeah". ummm yeah right. The only good bit was when they passed the stage over to their dj who decided to do a mash up; and did one of pink floyd and grand master flash. Was pretty rad i must say. We left before the end of their set as i was not impressed, and i kept thinking the Hoods and Jurassic 5 do it right and have a much better style imo. Then over to Angus & Julia Stone to see what all the fuss is about. We couldn't work out what the fuss was about. Does anyone know? We thought their songs were pretty beige on the whole. As we left Julia and Angus to do whatever they were doing, we decided to head over and check out Blue King Brown, which we had never heard before. With a name like that we expected something different, more bluesy. Can't even describe their music really as they chopped and changed a lot. We then ended up catching Wolfmother who played a mix of old and new tunes which i didnt expect as the lead dude, Andrew Stockdale, apparently has a whole new band. Was great to hear the oldies though, and he was rocking out hard on stage which was rad. Then across to see Iggy and the Stooges who are generally good for a laugh and entertaining, but they played the same set they did last year or the year before, ummm whenever they were here last.

But the one act that made the whole day worthwhile, withstanding stupid heat and being all grimey, was.....RAMMSTEIN!!!! Holy mother of hell, these guys were fricken out of control awesome. They sang every song in German pretty much, and it didn't matter. Till Lindemann who is the lead vocal, is just brilliant! Awesome stage presence, brilliant voice, and well fricken buff. They did pyrotechnics and heaps of crazy stuff through every single song. If they come back to Melbourne i will definitely go see them in a heart beat. I was just in awe the whole set. Loved em, want to marry em, etc etc

and now for some photos

Nice photos Lizzy - I agree, Rammstein were fuckin EPIC !!!! Everything needs more fireworks like they brought, such showmen and they df brought the wow factor. Keyboardist on treadmill in jumpsuit in 40 degree weather, wtf ;-)

Did you get any shots when the three of them were wearing the flame throwing masks spewing 6 metre flames from the skulls. So, so, so awesome. Want to buy one!

But Lizzy, I did notice you didnt mention Tool........................... come on Lizzy ;-) Tool's visual show matched their music to a tea, the guy who does their artwork is a magician. Cant wait to see them again on Wednesday night.

Deftones were really fun too, Birds of Tokyo were pretty good (need some melody every now and then) but fuck me is Kenny (lead singer) the coolest creepy singer, even more so with Birds than when he sings for Karnivool.

Did see some people wearing some strange things considering it was a 40 degree day. Skinny black jeans dont cut it anywhere but during BDO when its supposed to be 40, come on kiddies, try to be less cool for a day for comfort hey? Was funny tho, I found a good spot 3 people off the barrier dividing the pit and everyone else, smack in the middle of the Blue Stage (Tool side). Had 3-4 different sets of douchebags trying to push their way through and I seemed to be the only one standing my ground holding my position and then proceeded to tell them to fuck off, but once I stood my ground, seemed like everyone else did too which I found throughly amusing..... Some ppl can be rude ignorant pricks sometimes but made it great for a laugh ;-)

Awesome day tho, enjoyed it 10 times more than I thought I would, considering even flying to Adelaide on Friday to do it all again. Wednesday Tool Sideshow here I come tho!!!!
