ECHOES V4.0 [ Experiments in Dub] with Flippo Friday13 May

Dub, developed originally in the late sixties focusing on the rhythmic parts of a Reggae recording, grew to be a genre on its own right that has literally shaken the world ever since. It was a powerful experiment that has pushed the use of the mixing desk as an instrument and gave greater control to the sound engineer as a producer. It set the blueprint for much of the dance music that has followed.
ECHOES V4.0 will take you on a bass heavy journey from Kingston to Berlin via Detroit and London. For this evening, residents Matic and Mark Baumann will be joined by two special selectors with a distinctive sound:
Brookwise (Tenement Sound)
Stepping up to the plates this month, armed with a full crate of heavyweight bass comes Tenement Sound’s Brookwise. Wreaking audio havoc within the blogging community with his monthly mixtapes he’s known for pushing the sounds of pre-80s reggae alongside freshcut future bass rhythms . For the Echoes party he’ll be keeping it exclusively vinyl and the walls of Loop will be feeling the Yardie thump of deep dub pressure.
Flippo (a.k.a David Phillips)
One of Australia's Dubstep pioneers with a few 12" releases in labels like Pressing Issues and Formant Recordings. It didn’t take long for his work to catch the attention of punters, the specialized press and international DJs like Distance and BBC Radio One’s Mary Anne Hobs.
With influences coming from Drum & Bass, Techno, Ambient and IDM, his tracks and sets contain a varied palette of sounds and deep ambience. Having performed around the country, including festivals like Rainbow Serpent, he has been on a hiatus from gigging in order to experiment in the studio.
Echoes will mark the return of Flippo to the controls and he's keen to showcase his new material alongside underground cuts from around the world. Expect deep and forward thinking sounds!
