R.I.P. MB.com
R.I.P. MB.com
Rising from the ashes of Melbourne Jungle, Melbourne Beats first took flight on Tuesday 23rd November 2004.
Melbourne Beats, or MB.com, was the baby and brainchild of Melbourne beatsmiths, Lucas Chan and Lynt.
Local broken beat aficionados rejoiced, a community was born, an online hang-out for those with an interest in breaks, drum'n'bass, jungle and all the sub-genres and new genres that followed. Promoters and punters joined en masse in the months and years that followed, culminating with a peak number of simultaneous online members (178) on Tuesday 26th June 2007, at 2.54pm. 178 members online at once... wow!
As of today, Thursday 29th December 2011, MB.com boasts a membership of 4792 members... out of this impressive membership, roughly 2 people still frequent the website.
MB.com was proudly responsible for two high-profile fundraising nights... 2005's Beat Aid (raising an impressive $17k for the Asian Earthquake and Tsunami disaster) and 2007's Fire Aid (raising $9k for the 2006 Victorian Bushfire relief). There was also numerous MB.com BBQ's (north side vs south side) and other social engagements throughout it's lifespan.
Some Stats:
10 First Members: admin, lucas, breaksrbest, steiner, Craig McWhinney, Polecat, Friday, Guyno, DBoy, Dean Millson.
10 Top Posters: deviant, huge (with Agent Orange post count added), Lizkins, lynt, Direkt, gnat, mixtress, mrj, ghetto kitty, quick.
Whilst this post is largely tongue-in-cheek... with the increasing amount of tumbleweed blowing throughout the website, particularly this year, I thought I might as well post this half-joking obituary...
Bigups to lucas, lynt, system and all the moderators, members, shit stirrers, promoters and punters that have made this an enjoyably communicative and pro-procrastination tool for the past 7-years or so.

what? Arrgh! Noooooooo... I hope this does not portend things to come. This site is a little security blanket for me. Sad but true.

Big ups to all you mentioned, Spies.
But it does feel like every time I lurk in these days I'm just kicking a dead corpse to see if it'll move on its own again.

Was a jizztastic day all round.
I had become a sour old bastard,
But just needed a good 'Sub-and-Tug' (I'll get my coat)
T'was a good reminder of the joys of RAVE, and with a respectable bed time.

Re: R.I.P. MB.com
well I dont find subjugating females into sexual objects very funny
MANY women have worked long and hard to eradicate these kind of 'jokes' and attitudes from society so it saddens me when i read it on here.
women are equals - lets work together to remove that glass ceiling and stop the continued 'casual sexism' directed towards our female poking toys

Yo. Feel the same way Lizkins. I have met friends on here that I know I'll have for the rest of my life. Shit, I met the love of my life here...8 years with Recon this January. I still have him in my phone as Recon, cause it reminds me of how we met and what an awesome time my life was back then. And that includes you fuckers.Lizkins wrote:even though tongue in cheek, this still makes me sad to see how its gone over the last year or so this place really impacted on my life, from friends, to gigs etc

Being on here is hard sometimes, I've had my heartbreaks as well as anyone. It's been a fucking ride though, there is no doubt...Mb.com's been there through 4 jobs, 3 houses and 2 major relationships. It's all connected for me, it's the 1st degree of separation during all those crazy times of my youth.
Probably should have held on a bit then harder, huh? I miss using the emoticons

Re: R.I.P. MB.com
Nothing lasts forever. I'd rather it be gone than be left in this state, tbh. At least then we could remember how good it was, as opposed to how lame it is.

Quality is more important than quantity, Dan.
Now, why is this website still here? Where's Lucas? Shut this baby down so we can have happy thoughts, again.

Re: R.I.P. MB.com
Not at all. Everybody's sad at what this place has become so why not just end it?
As I mentioned, all good things must come to an end, and it's better to end on a high than to go on in an embarrassing way. Why wouldn't you put something you cared about out of it's (our) misery?

I seriously don't understand how it has become embarrassing. Blimey, how much did it consume your life if it has? I still pop in from time to time, but don't feel remotely offended by the fact that there's so little traffic. Mb introduced me to a huge number of friends and has played a massive role in my social life - but I definitely don't think it needs to be shut down to preserve those memories. That's just retarded. The mixes section still gets a few decent things posted. Why mourn the fact that it won't be what it was (definitely sounding like jaded ravers again - "back in the day") and preserve the happy memories. If it's too depressing for your melodramatic heart, then don't visit. Simple eh!
