3 mobile...thoughts
well i come off my optus contract tomorrow and i think its time to move on to something thats not on contract.
im sick of paying 60bucks a month for a phone i hardly ever use...so i got thinking about some ads for a $29 cap ive seen and it looks pretty good. as far as im aware 3mobile uses the telstra 3g mobile network when in range and when not will roam onto any available telstra GSM network. i would say all 3 customers would get lower priority than telstra (used to work for defence with their mobile communications support and thats the usual) so does anyone have first hand experience on the 3 mobile network and what its like???
going with 3 would mean id have to nab a new phone too, something with 3g sim support - the sony k608i looks the goods and its only 15bucks a month or should i choose to leave 3 at any time i would have to pay the remainder of the mobile handset cost (i think they are about 500quid all up)
so the very longwinded way i see it, is with 3, i get a new phone, more calls and for a cheaper price (44 a month) than if i chose to stay with optus or move to the optus 49 cap.
it looks too good, is there a catch im missing peeps!???

I went through the same thing about 6 months ago.
Nearly went with 3 until a friend on 3 told me they were v exe call rates.
I picked Vodafone prepaid $49 cap with which I get $230 of calls. It's a great deal, and I think better than 3. If you're looking for a phone they do a $99 deal, a phone and $30 credit... pretty good really.

Free to those that can afford it, very expensive to those that can't.

yeah, i dont really need a new phone unless i switch to 3 in which case i would have to as they take different sims.
optus do a 49bone cap too, might be easier to just stay with that. ill investigate the call rates

everyone i know on 3 hates it. they dont know what customer support is and the phones are well dodge. coverage has been shit, but i see they just got on telstras network so that should improve things a bit. the speakers cut in and out on them heaps. my housemate has gone thru 5 handsets and i know lots of other people who have had similar issues.
id suggest checking elsewhere.

I too have heard nothing but bad things about 3...
I'm on the Vodafone $79 cap, with $500 worth of calls, text, MMS, internet and even some international calls.
I'm paying an extra $50 a month for my phone though, cause I just had to have a Sony Ericsson P910i after using the P900 and loving it
Vodafone have been great so far (since april).
No complaints, and they haven't kept me waiting on hold for like an hour like Smellstra used to.

Little did I know, and even less did I care.
^^ Hahah yeh they are rude...my boss lady always calls them when she is pre-menstrual and goes beserk...always gets free credits and stuff though which is ok..although clearly not worth the hassle of crap service and high call rates
I considered 3 but ended up staying with Optus and going on the $49 cap a couple of days ago. Seems like it will end up cheaper than the old plan I was on and I got some stupid new phone as well with all the trimmings I don't need (and never will).
