MBc 1st Birthday :: Nov 19th @ Edinburgh Gardens :: Thoughts

Post by great_magnet »

Hope I not treading on any toes (I'm looking at you Lucas and Lynt), however it has occured to me that MB will celebrating it's first birthday on 23 November this year.

Wouldn't it be great to celebrate in style with a little shindig? A chance to get together and talk shite in person?

We've got the DJ's, we've got the peeps who now how to put these things together and we should have access to a wide variety of venues....

It would also be a great opportunity to put a nominal fee on the door to put some money back into this little venture to allow Mr Chan and Master Lynt to keep our little home away from home running smoothly.

Whaddya reckon peeps???

I'd like to put my hand up to be involved in this one. Not sure exactly how we will structure it but I reckon it's something well worthwile being part of.

I'd like to see what people reckon, there's hundreds of frequent users on this board and we've got a few months to decide, maybe we should start laying down what we'd want..

A night? A day? Dance music? Where?

My thoughts:

Musically - breaks/dnb/hiphop/dancehall/grime... There's so many great DJ's on here that we could definitely pull together a great local line up that represents the broad beats spectrum.

Venue - will need to be a minimum of two rooms to cater to the wide variety of players and tastes.

Timing - daytime may be tough due to work/other commitments. I reckon we should get in before Dec to avoid the whole Xmas party issue and the sheer volume of parties that occur in this period.

The template for pulling together Beat.Aid seemed to work really well, group consensus and shared tasks etc..

If this does happen on a sunday Northside we can def. get a party with some MBC DJs at Bimbo afterward.

Let's do it....

Sunday Lawnbowls and BBQ at Fitzroy Bowls Club!
There's nothing like a bit of bowls to get the chat happening between people, while having a boogie on the green to the beats or bass.

Yeah! Cheap beer too!

yup..

Just so that there is no confusion folks..

Edinbourgh Gardens (often referred to as N.Fitzroy gardens).. is on St Georges Rd (extn of Brunswick St).

The Fitzroy Oval and North Fitzroy Bowls Club can also be found here :D

Had many a session down there near the skate bowl over the last five summers... including a very merry last Christmas day :smt030

Yeah! Bring it on! GM, this is a sterling idea, my man...Any time on the weekend would be sweet, I can always be flexible with work schedules provided I have enough forewarning. I would actually like to catch up with some folks around here that doesn't involve a club setting...see what you peeps look like in the daytime. 8) But indoors works too. If anyone needs some help, I'll put my hand up for some organizzle!

The only thing that strikes me with the outdoor idea is the ability to still put some money back into MB. I have no idea where Lucas is at with the ongoing management and if there are any fees involved, but I am sure most of us wouldn't object to paying a small nominal fee to be part of the action.

Is this something that would be a major issue? Is it required? Can it still be done with an outdoor park stylez scenario?

On behalf of Lucas, money isn't a concern. If we needed cash, we'd have banners and all sorts of bullshit that *other* forums have. MB.C has always been community based, by the community, for the community. I'm sure we'd want our birthday to be a strong representation of that.

Thoughts?

Grrrrrrrrreat idea, like the outdoor option, we can recreate the poms winning the ashes whilst the many DJ's of MBeats play devine tunes. :smt042 and I can show off my reverse swing ;)

I'll bring the pimms in true pommie styleeeeeeeeeeeee!

loving your idea GM. With this issue may be the area could be roped off with that MelbourneBeats banner the Lucie had at some party a while back. Outdoor club styles or something? That way when you enter you pay :smt023

i am sure people will scam it similar to SummaDayz, but most honest ones will come on through and pay :D

If there is a cost involved in putting on the event, the event should cover that cost somehow.

Most people wouldn't bat an eyelid at giving a little to something which gives to them so freely.

Just cause it's community based, by the community, for the communuty doesn't mean the comunity can't do a little something in return.
