St Jeromes

Post by lynt »

My goodness, I had the pleasure of playing there on Friday night and it was the first time I'd been there at night (been in the day for quick coffee and thats it), but I never realised how mental that place can get. I love the dirtyness and randomness of outside, the fridge with long necks and jager and a few basic spirits.. the basement, the grubby toilets and the smashing sound.

Jagers out of plastic cups and as much beer as you can hold down, and the fact that you actually can't move in there and it takes me about 10 minutes from the DJ console to the toilets and back again. Timed it.. impossible.

Anyone else really dig it or do you think it's a dive. I think it's rad. But I'm a late comer like I said...

Love it ever since I climbed the staircase in the back of the warehouse up to like Level 6 while I was  and found all sorts of assorted weirdness. Came back covered in cobwebs and layers of dust.

Very cool space and very Melbourne. 8)

I'm a big fan of the place. As you say, it gets absolutely packed on a Friday and Saturday night, so it can be a bit of a struggle moving around at times.

was wicked. havent been at all this year.

it seems far too packed now days, and prolly full of 80's outfits and idiots?

Nah. Still no door I think..? Not idiots, just drunkens. It's to be expected considering the price of alcohol there.

I love the eclectic and eccentric shabbiness of St Jeromes and I like the interesting, mixed crowd it attracts. Only drawback is the open sewer smell that sometimes permates the space out back. Maybe they have fixed that though? has been awhile since I've been

Didn't you once tell me to molotov that place?

Maybe I'm thinking of a different venue.

Yeh it used to be cool. Last three months or so have seen an increase in jerks who like to grab women when they try to walk past to get to the bathroom. Needless to say I only go there on Thursdays now... sweet hip hop and wierdness and its not too busy...

But I always go back during the day for the cheese toasties.

yeah, the grungey factor is pretty cool and the outside laneway bit has a good atmosphere.

this is what I hate about it and why I never go there.
[edit: I just remembered. I got the worst cigarette burn on my arm from a chick trying to squeeze her way through the crowd to the toilets] :?

Been meaning to get there for ages but I was afraid I had missed the boat. Seems the tip is stay away fridays and saturdays by the sound of things (unless in the mood for cramped debauchery).

I always thought it was a great place for a party, not much like in melbs with that outdoor undercover thing.. Would love to see a party with dope choons belting out of the speakers and some street art in progress while the night is going on , its got that sort of vibe yes/no

Agree- cool place. Very packed tho and the guys are a bit loose with the 'brushing up against you'.

Not cool: their toilets are feral- not into the mixed thing. Last time I was there, I got piss on the bottoms of my pants from the floor where all the guys skulling lager from plastic cups had missed the bowl.

:smt078

WTF is with that anyway?- aim and point.

Stay tuned for another Laneway Festival in the new year.

Last one was huge, taking over Jeromes, the lane way and Lounge.

Great bar if you can fit and dont mind the indent of a milk crate on your ass.

for the record I cant stand St Jeromes. like the actual set-up but I have never once had a good time there, except about 4 oclock on a Sat arvo after a massive one, where we all just sat out the back and recounted old d gen routines. that was fun.

What?! I could understand it if someone wanted to grab your ass in like say (S)Honky-Tonks but St Jeromes?!

I love St J, I love places where you wouldn't know they were there unless, like me, you get into hanging out in alleyways

By the way, did you know that it's called St Jerome's because the owner AND his son are BOTH named Jerome? (just call me Dr Useless Information)
