I have another idea - Melb breaks unite underpants. Think about it. We can save a bit of cash on material by making them crotchless.
brilliant!
maybe you could have a winter version too for all those chilly Melbourne nights - crutchless long johns with the logo on the ass cheeks:

With the triangles that we cut out for the crotches, we can donate them to a school for the blind for eye-patches?
Either that or sell them to pygmies for flaps on their legioneers hats?

Man, you're onto some Zen Budha Shiznit now. Can we steal that and make some bumper stickers?

...and we're not just praising the beginning once. Every year we want the Melbourne Breaks community to Unite. This isn't going to be a one-off event. Please read my longer explanation below...

Why Melbourne Breaks Unite?

Posted: Sun Feb 13, 2005 10:44 am
by obliveus
In the coming years each Melbourne Breaks Unite festival will be a benefit for worthwhile causes. This year the cause is ourselves so we can put ALL money made away for the next one. That way next year any money made will be donated to the Starlight Foundation, for example. So every year we want the Melbourne Breaks community to Unite for a great cause.

It will be the annual event when all the breaks crews unite as one for the betterment of society. Good karma and relationship building, bridging communication gaps between crews, sharing of ideas, variety of dance music and ritual spanking of Drew's donkey. All important byproducts of what we want to do with this thing.

The main thing we want to do is have a MASSIVE evening of quality breakbeat for the punters, DJ's, MC's, musicians, producers, wives, girlfriends, husbands, boyfriends, kids, grandparents, bartenders, publicists, promoters, artists, technicians and everyone else who's down for a good time.

That's it.

:D

Melbourne Breaks Unite rocks. Can't personally see any reason why we'd alter the name.
I think the whole thing sends a great message. I mean, heaps of us have been working against eachother for years now, and some have even been at war.
'Unite' sends a clear message that we are finally doing something together. Some of us in the breaks scene may not like eachother, but we are working towards it's (the scene's) betterment, and making a BIG effort to put past differences aside.
To top that off, the punters get to see every crew in Melbourne in one night, united.
Personaly, I can't think of a better name, nor a better message.
Thanks for the feedback, but Melbourne Breaks Unite it is. 8)

Can I bring my Grandparents OB1?
I'll need a hand wheeling the coffins in, are you up for it? :D

I'm not deliberating the name of the night, just the T-Shirts. Anyway.

i get where you're coming from. walk around with that on your chest and you're saying "woo! cool. melbourne breaks is it man!"

walk around with the "..unite" slogan and you're saying, "get it together melbourne breaks dudes .. peace, be one and play killer tunes for me." thats not a wholly positive message read from the t-shirt perspective UNLESS you were there to experience it at the party.

can someone send me a press release when you get it sorted please :)

Maybe the alternative is one of the below:

Melbourne Breaks Unites!

(won't be as definitive or date-free as Lynt's suggestion but will alleviate the issues raised by PC and Lynt)

OR

Melbourne Breaks United

(I like this one, gives a kinda of old school soccer vibe and says exactly what needs to be said. Think of all the merchandising possibilities....)

I agree. "Melbourne Breaks" is the achieved goal "Melbourne Breaks Unite" is the call to arms to achieve that goal (and the party name).

In order for something to "Unite" it nees to be disparate to start with. This is an appropriate name for the party, as this is what is happening. However for the T-Shirts (which outlast the first party), you probably want to push the message that Melbourne Breaks are one, not that they are uniting.

So if you want a T for a party, "Melbourne Breaks Unite" is perfect. If you want a T shirt for a united scene then "Melbourne Breaks" would seem to fit better. If you wanted to keep the Unite perhaps "United Melbourne Breaks" would be a better slogan for the T?

Having said that, there is a lot to be said for keeping tight coupling between the party name and the merch. Also, I don't really know shit about this stuff.

Party will be phat either way!

i got ya- and feel both "melbourne breaks unite" as a calling card, and it works with the socialist style fist, but not as well with out it.

but i do love the marketing potential of MBU, melbourne breaks united. soccer style shirts etc.

so, in summery, It is all good.

Nice one. :D

It's just 'Melbourne Breaks Unite', plain and simple.
It's the name of the party, and how the T will be printed.
Just printing a T with 'Melbourne Breaks' on it would not be viable or worthwhile for future MBU events, be alot of extra cash for extra setup and printing, and from a promotional perspective, not even an option.

MBU - I like it.

We'll be doing one big run of Tee's, all the same design, but different colours, in three different sizes for everyone - so Guyno tells me.

They look absolutely awesome!!! :)

Thanks for the input everyone. Will take all points into account before going ahead with tee production.

Here goes my two cents.

The tee in question was simply meant to be a souvenir of what will hopefully be a kick arse party called MELBOURNE BREAKS UNITE so I see it fitting that the merchandise is in keeping with the event at hand not a generic tee that has no real link to MBU.

We could certainly look at designing and making some tees to be sold at dmc(for eg.) all year round that dont really tie in with anything except a celebration of the breakbeat scene in Melbourne in general. So if anyone is keen to hook up something like this please feel free to pm me to discuss this further.

As for multiple styles and designs. Great idea but extremely expensive over short runs such as this. When you take into account actual screen charges over multi coloured, multiple design tees over tiny quantities, you'll find it's either a great way to lose money or have to charge 50bux a tee which we didn't want to do. Want to keep the cost as cheap as possible so they're accessible to everyone. Hopefully around the $15 to $20 :D

Yeeeeeaaaaaah Maaaaaaaaaaate!

Good ideas jbs's!

Then we wouldn't need to print any tees maaaaaate.

We would attract alot of the 'check out my sweaty pectoral inplants barrel o monkey boys' that usually feel that wearing any tops at all is a waste of times maaaaaaate.

Yes, he was right into the 'stretched freckle brown.'

Didn't want to touch the 'skylabia pink.'

He kept rubbing the hat like it was a lucky charm. And letting out the odd moan.

It's not fulleh sic unless the subwoofa is pumping and you've got your top on in 100 degree heat, inside.

Andd you are *way* more likley to pick up someone if you rub your sweat on them before you "move in". That's shits proven. Don't test.

I completely ripped off the Man U logo. Top idea for switching the balls with turntables (or records). I'm on it.

Completely off the subject, but I gotta get it out now. Cuz a few people have been asking and I want the truth be known from the beginning:

The idea for a breaks festival was not mine for the record (pardon the pun). It was the good ol grandfather of the breaks scene, Brewster B, who came up with the idea. He got my creative juices flowing back in the day when I did an interview with him almost 3 years ago. Dont want anyone to think I came up with it on my own. All I can say though is that this never would have got off the ground if it wasn't for Evil, Guyno, Scotrod and Hansy. So everyone give em hug when you see them. Give me a fiver, I need it.

Nah man, you are way too modest sometimes, the idea was yours - as you initiated the whole thing. I and the other guys can only take cred as organizers.
Seed may have been planted by someone else, but you took action.
Everyone in Melb has been thinking/talking of doing something like this for a while, and Shepherd organized something similar a few years ago at Lounge, but wasn't quite on this scale. Was a great night out though.

No-one has really had the means to do it, but now we do, as things in the scene have really come along.
Again, you initiated it - it was your idea as far as I'm concerned, and we are fucking proud of you for it. :D
You have a full-on team of movers and shakers behind you. This thing is going to rock!!

Just got off the phone with the Obester, and this line-up is nothing short of MASSIVE.

99% of acts confirmed now. Possibly the most exciting breaks party in our towns history.

Also - we are still searching for sponsors. If anyone is aligned with anyone worthy of being a sponsor, then please get in touch ASAP.
Get me some details, or give them mine.
