And its not even stinger season.

Wasn't he diving off the low isles? Tourism in Port Douglas is about to take a turn for the worse I think...

In the 5min since I've heard of this event - I have heard that comment about 6 times.... And I'm most likely destined to hear it many more times before the day's out!

Bound to be a bit of light hearted banter about this, but still, got to respect the guy.

The old videos of him and his old man out in the dingy restling crocs and that before he began Mr. Entertainment still amaze me...

Probably recognised as Australia's leading living icon.

RIP.

i reckon he was a propper champ. man threw so much of his money back into animal conservation and stuff.

this is a shame.

Only the 2nd or 3rd death in Australian hitory from a ray. Must have got the heart for him to die that soon. I always thought he behaved pretty iresponsably around dangerous animals so it's no suprise that is how he would go, bit of a goose. But you have to admire anyone who is that enthusiastic about what they do. RIP.

Live by the croc....

Die by the croc (well Stingray in this case...)

RIP steve...

but honestly, i dont think he was a 'great ambassador for australia'
i think he took the misconceptions of what crocdile dundee did for OZ and made em WORSE.

for the rest of the world, he was living proof that we are all walkin around goin 'you think THATS a knife?"

but still, pity he left a family behind....

I think we jinxed him

We were talking about this just the other day (the likelihood that he would eventually be killed by an animal)

meh. He was real, he was not a film character, he did walk around going - Crikey, not putting it on, he came from a real part of Australia where they really do wrestle crocs and move them off farms to save the animals etc.

If parts of the world are ignorant enough to believe we are all like that, let them believe it.

yeah i guess....

he was a good guy...

but the rest of the world is only as ignorant as the info they recieve sometimes, thats all.

Man, I was in the middle of class when Lindemon sent me the text. Gave extra credit to the first student to look it up on the web. Everyone was pretty shocked.

Feel like the easter bunny just died, to tell you the truth. Much of what sold this country to me and my wife came from his shows on the Discovery Channel. The end of an era. Love him or hate him, he sold this place to a lot of people around the world.

RIP

in my travels i copped a lot of crikey jokes and croc wrestling lines..
-but its people like that that keep australia reminded of the place it is.. im from the country but I often forget that in the life of the city..

Everytime someone overseas asked me if i really had wrestled a croc or downed a roo.. i couldn't help but feel a little proud of the sunburnt country.

there's lovable bogans too.
