they dont, they use GSM on a different bandwidth. as far as i can remember from my Defence days the US is 850 MHz and 1900 MHz. mostly 1900.

quad and triband phones will work pretty much anywhere in the word. in fact you can even use your AUS mobile overseas with the same simcard (global roaming)

chances are the US version of this phone would "work" in australia... getting a simcard from an aussie carrier that fits would be another matter.

t9 is the input recognition method, not the actual input device, though. i can see that being implemented fairly easily in the iphone.

from what i've seen of the engineering approach re the touch screen input on the iphone, i am very interested to get hold of one.

Some guy was selling what was apparently a legitimate one on ebay. Went for $800. Apple got wind of it and ebay brought down the auction - after it was well and truly ended though.
