Overall, happier now.

by crappy something else and wait for iphone 5?!

dan - i did everything you said, removed all the apps i dont use (i still use quite a few tbh)
and still no love.

edit - alex, did you buy outright? i have to buy outright cos work pays for my calls so cant go on a plan...

Bo: you could try this...
Turn off Spotlight Search for a bigger, long term boost

Another tip submitted by readers: turn off Spotlight search indexing. From Settings/ General/ Home Button/ Spotlight search, turn search indexing off for as many items as possible. This reduces the overall workload of the system, so it appears to give an overall performance boost that is significant.

Maybe you could restore the phone to basic settings and take all your photos and music off it too.

Mine only got slow and shit when it was over half full of stuff.

Bo im in the same boat as you (sort of) just got off pran, have shitty iphone 3G and im on shitty vodafone so im having majour issues, lucky no-one ever calls me!
But yeah dont bother trying to use internet of phone anymore, waay to slow or it just crashes, texts sometimes come in days later, im not sure if the problem is Vodafone or iphone 3G or both combined.
So yeah, im thinking do i wait 4 months for iphone 5 or upgrade to 4 now...hmmm

yup, work account is with vodaphone too.
is it 4 months to wait? it hasnt been announced yet but jobs likes the element of surprise.
found quite a few iphone 4's on amazon for around $600-700 unlocked last night...

do not see the point in getting anything else now - syncing etc.
and do love iphone, but not when it crashes all the time!
srsly every 3rd call drops out now - very unproffessional cos ppl call me all feckin day n night.

what we gonna do al?

I meant turning off its intertron completely, just as a test to see if you can narrow down what's going wrong. Mebbe it is killing itself trying to sync a bunch of stuff (gigantic gmail inbox?)

lol hugh...

BO: yeah, DO NOT use the on board email (it sux)...

use safari for gmail.. .the interface is far superior.. can has priority inbox, can has threading, can has attachments without having to DL the whole thing for EVERY EMAIL regardless of whether you need it on your phone or not. Seriously, gmail have done a mad job of there mobile interface.. maybe try deleting all your email and email account deets.

hrmm.
has to use on board email as gmail is only personal, miss libs account isnt as easy to do online.
tbh i only check mail on phone once every few days, when waiting on something i know is coming thats important.
kev said 6 months at least for iphone 5 so i guess i should just do it.

reckon buy from ebay/amazon or risky?

I don't understand why personal email has to use on board?? I get that miss libs account has to be POP etc.. So, just use the on board for miss libs and turn auto sync off (push "off").

weird, why would anyone want their phone giving them prompts on how to behave.

same school of thought as these half arsed flash mobs imo. lame.

Well being that it's an iphone app, lame is a given, but the situationists were a group of political activists who supported the May 1968 protests/riots in France and indirectly contributed to the book "Fight Club", which makes it not quite so lame imo

Lol Bo, reading your woes in this thread is enough to put anyone off wanting to own an iphone

I'm still toying with the idea of switching to a smartphone, probs a Desire

TBH though, every time I start looking around at what's what I just get confused and end up saying to myself fuck it, the phone I've got's served me well for years and will probably conitinue to

All I really want is GPS/reliable calls and text/stable internet for google, wiki, dictionary etc

Dunno if I can really justify the $650 odd to buy one outright, and hate plans

Looks like the old Nokia's gonna be getting a workout for some time to come

i'm a bit of a convert to the non plan side actually. despite still having to use my slowly dying iphone, i reckon it's pretty good value. only downside is lack of data allowance really. definitely more cost effective for me i think, and it's nice not to be tied down.

the iPhone 4 is mad!! major improvement from previous versions..

Also, after moving to Telstra (i HATE giving them money) I'll never look back. Amazing speeds and faultless service.

What's coverage like? Dropouts? Consistency of messages sent/received? Which network?

it's TPG which uses OPTUS. no dropouts (i'm rarely out of the city tho). some black holes but that happens to everyone. internet speeds are great too.

yes i have been told that vodaphone has been pretty crap for the last 2 years! and apparently my calls dropping out, voicemails coming in late, texts arriving late, is all vodaphone and not my iphone.

and i cannot use another provider if i want free everything paid for by work. :(

and a iphone 4 will cost me $1k outright so for now - fuck it, im gonna use mine till i absolutely cannot deal with it anymore.

its kinda like my pooter, when i get a new one, its fast and slick and sleek as fuck, then over a year or two that i use it, i get faster than the technology and demand more from it. i demand more now, but it is still a far superior phone for me to use with work and being a mca user etc

Customer service tends to be great when its related to sales.

I'd reserve judgement until after they are no longer trying to sell you something.

telstra are actively out to screw you at every turn, optus end up screwing you at every turn but mainly because they're inept rather than malicious.

their network was atrocious (data was a joke), dropout city, always got missed call texts when i didn't get a call and was in network range the whole time, rates were an absolute pisstake and then they go and announce $3 days on prepaid where you get unlimited everything for $3/day. plus getting accidentally cut off for a couple of weeks at a time was pretty rad, feat. arguing with the billing department. 'this bill is unpaid' 'no it isn't, i paid it' 'sorry, it says you didn't' 'could you please have a look?' 'oh right, there's this payment here for the exact amount with the right reference number' '...'

my average vodafone uk bill is like 1/10th of my average optus bill, and i do MORE rather than less international texting/calling here.

in summary, optus can eat several dicks.
