Re: Soundsystem Culture. Can it flourish in Australia?
Also i'm pretty sure (correct me if i'm wrong) that the system we see at parties in Melbourne is Heartical Outernational, and that there is another system living in the UK........when i youtubed Heartical i found lots of snippets of dubstep parties over that side of the world Obviously Heartical is...

Re: Soundsystem Culture. Can it flourish in Australia?
The soundsystem was also about the unique records (dubs, acetates, etc) being played by each individual crew (Prince Buster, Reid, etc)...not just the system itself, wasn't it? Obviously, the system was important though and you wouldn't have the tunes to the masses if not for it. I hope it flourish...

Re: Soundsystem Culture. Can it flourish in Australia?
I'm curious.. don't know much about this so forgive obvious questions. What is the advantage of having a soundsystem? Is it just better quality sound? I'm presuming that these soundsystems in Jamaica were used in replace of established clubs? I'm just not sure what sort of purpose they would serve ...

Soundsystem Culture. Can it flourish in Australia?
Often when I mention the term 'soundsystem' not sound system, I often feel its misunderstood as it hasn't really took off here as it has in say UK, Europe and many countries. so below is a blurb I wrote to promote and teach people about the cultural aspect of soundsystems. I would like to hear peopl...

Re: producer getting all the credit in dub. Sounds fair enough to me. It's his session. His musos, his creation and his end product. Yes I hear you, but its not the band doing the dub, no disrespect to the musicians as the play well but when it comes to the dub, credit goes to the engineer. And King Charlie brings the technique from the studio to the venue and dubs it live. Without this, where's the dub? IMO dub is soundsystem m...

Re: Start from the beginning - Dub.
Nowadays a lot of music is made to sound like dub. Dub is a style of reggae music that no longer exists in JA but today is now huge across Europe to Asia It is not a live band thing though many would disagree, IMO dub comes from the studio then played on soundsystem. Dub has had a its influence on ...

Re: Start from the beginning - Dub.
Yeah was just about to say that I don't think hip-hop was born from dub. The technique of DJ'ing might have partially come from soundsystem selektas, but the music was more influenced by disco, funk and soul. Sure the musical influence in Hip Hop is funk, soul and disco. I believe rapping has its r...
