I think stopping is in best interests of all involved and you can all get back to chatting about the great line up that melbourne has (I am jealous)

he's great, but what is he doing locally gig wise????

The more I've thought about this the more I am convinced that the biggest/best current local DJ hero is.... OPIUO without any contest. I was at his gig a few weeks ago and it was RAMMED, he killed it AND he pretty much plays all the time (my point being that most good DJs that play all the time end up dilluting themselves big time (boogs, dave pham, nick thayer, etc etc... great DJs, but do they pack clubs on their own these days?)... he's packing clubs almost every week. Plus he has releases on international labels etc etc etc.....

I dont know if there's any correlation but he also doesn't chat shit on the internet much which is unusual and makes him something of an enigma.

Saturation is definitely an issue. Playing every weekend is not necessarily the best way to build a fanbase in this day and age.

Just saying I think the best way to promote yourself is STFU and make wicked tunes. Not that I'm guilty of either of those things.

Wouldn't it pay to leave and start your international reign of terror?

How many internationals reside in Melbourne other than Carl Cox and School of Thought?
Phil K
Jamie Stevens
Steve May (at least once upon a time)
Rollin Connection (they play Asia every now and then)
Danny Bonnici
Luke Chable (well he did reside here once upon a time)

My bad, I wasn't clear. The above are all Australian - my query was for DJ's and producers not from Aust living here.

all above listed are amazing and a great sign of the talent Australia has.

well thats the thing isn't it?

there isn't one person who can fill a club, there aren't even that many collectives that can do it week in week out.

so whats the real issue, is it lack of local superstars, lack of original programming or just lack of interest?

no lack of.

glut of.

glut of good gigs, glut of good venues, and not enough dedicated punters to go round.

this is a small city population wise for everything we got goin on.

Aw this forum is awesome! Always makes me smile.
Lots of wonderfully happy people are all in here.

How many people here actually go out on a regular basis anyway? Going to at least one gig min a week? Sometimes managing 2?

I know I don't. But I'm poor and old and by the time I'm home in my nice warm house I just can't be arsed leaving.

I honestly don't know that many people who will actually go and support at least one dnb/dubset/dub gig a week min most will pick their "crew" persay that they follow and go to their monthly gig and maybe roll out for a big name headliner who's being put on by someone they wouldn't usually check out.

Meh, Either way melbourne dnb scene is moving up theres heaps of crap on (I missed london though cause I'm old and was in bed still from the night before)

Can someone buy me a ticket to SOM? No really? Like take pitty on my and buy me one?
The fridge is angry, the cheese told me so.

Watch out for the penguins, they are comming

australia's privacy legislation is pretty tight on attempts to transfer membership information

Oh and im extremely old, think your mum..... I only go to shit i haven't heard before or artists that were off the wall the first time. Its the youngins that parties need to survive. You gotta remember youngins follow trends, Th3y ar3 w@y coo13r 7han uS. They know whats goin on they just haven't got the ear for complex shit yet.

And the suburbs are full of the f'kers, do you know how often they pop out kids out there. F'k me!, its like its a freakin human farm. Plonk, plonk ....plonk
Anyway there are a shit load of bored teenagers walkin around. Just need to fool them into comin lol

I wont speak for the boys, but I highly doubt they would just 'sell' either their brand or their mailing list.

:?

and, its not sad - its awesome. They made a massive successful brand out of Heavy Innit, a huge mark on the scene for dubstep here, and they are ending on a REALLY high note, rather than fading away to half arsed obscurity like so many other party brands. And they leave room then for other nights like Too Much etc etc to take the scene further.

Massive props to Affiks and Brendan, and the others, both for what they have done and the hard decision they just made.
