Too Much! 2nd Birthday ft Ikonika (UK)
Saturday April 23rd – 2011 @ Mercat Basement
Two years ago djs Same O & Fooishbar had the idea of starting a night that would not compromise on musical integrity and would constantly push interesting and experimental bass music. Fast forward two years and Too Much! Is now one of Melbourne’s most loved underground bass music parties pushing as what they describe “Music brought to you by the future”. Having held massive parties with some of the UK’s most bright stars such as Ramadanman, Kryptic Minds, Untold, Silkie to name a few Too Much! Have decided to pull out all stops and bring one of the most (if not the most) exciting artists from the UK Ikonika.
With her brilliant debut release 'Please', Ikonika firmly established her place in the Dubstep landscape. Her unique sound continued to progress with further releases on Hyperdub and Planet Mu, as well as a stunning remix of DJ Mujava's 'Township Funk' (Warp).
Ikonika's music combines melodic synth patterns, driving drums, melancholic sub bass and unorthodox song structures, simultaneously heartfelt and heavy.
Her tracks have been supported by everyone from Kode9, Martyn and Mary Anne Hobbs (BBC Radio 1) to Rob Da Bank, Benji B, Giles Peterson (BBC Radio 1) and Flying Lotus. As an in demand DJ, her sets showcase the constantly mutating underground sounds of the UK, spanning from the freshest Dubstep and Funky dubplates to the classic foundations of House and Garage. With the release of her debut album ‘Contact, Love, Want, Have’ (Hyperdub), a raft of remixes and a busy DJ schedule, Ikonika is certain to fulfill her potential as one the UK's brightest stars.
DJ Mag say:"If Bjork made dubstep instrumentals, this is what might come out"
The Guardian say:"Ikonika melds the genre's juddering bass with Aphex Twin-style melodic mischief"NME:"Another extraordinary Hyperdub artist is Ikonika"
Pitchfork:"A production style that seems to be approaching synth melodies in an original way"
Tickets are now on sale @ moshtix and at Swindle next week!

I just wanna thank everyone that was involved with this party, all the promoters and people who helped with decore, all the djs, my right hand man david babe, my beautiful girlfriend for keeping my spirts up and for her constantly pushing me to do this, every person who has come to a too much! & also of course fooish who started too much! with me but like a cunt abandoned us
Next up we have N-Type and from then on we are going to start focus on local talent and people from around Australia who play good music!
