My pet peeve again; would the MC shut the %#ck up!

Post by bobby bob bob »

Fuck me dead that annoys me sometimes!

Listening to High Contrast mix set from the drum and bass awards in march, (and he aint my fave by a long way, ) and he is absolutely rinsing it in places. Great mashups and new remixes etc

BUUUUTTT

Dynamite, who used to be one of my favourite MCs is just ruining it, singing out of key and missing the higher notes, and just making a tit of himself.

Goddamn that is annoying. I have seen him so many times, and he is a talented guy; he fronted Roni at the HiFi a few years back and rhymed "Gold" off his album, which is such a hard rapid flow and nailed it, and now he just tries to sing along off key to songs and kills it..

Sorry, had to blow off steam.. But a question for the djs out there;
Is there a stage when you know the MC is murdering your work when you are spinning a set? How do you pull em back in, or tell em to shut up? Do you brief them beforehand? What gives?

If I was high contrast, I woulda mixed him out..

Thoughts or flames anyone? Listen to that mix and you will see what I mean..

I normally wipe sets that have too much over the top mc'ing in them, but this was a good set.

Maybe I need to fork up an autotune for dyna so he can get wit it

Don't get me wrong, I love em Harz- when they do it well, they absolutely nail a set together..

SP:MC, lowqui, MC AD etc. etc.

Dynamite is a great crowd exciter, as I have seen him heaps, but at what point should it be about the music first?

haha yea true bro, sorry jus heard it a million times. I kno wot ya mean, some mc's have absolutly destroyed mix's for me, and i also agree about dyna gettin a bit lazy in his rymes these days. Its up2tha DJ tho, I enjoy the techier and jump up dj's with an mc but wen it comes to dudes like high contrast and minimal beats less is more eh.

recorded sets with MC's on them very rarely stand up in the cold hard light of day, fact. I can only think of 2-3 sets that I really dig the recorded MC from a live show, and I'm talking about legendary MC's such as Fearless and Skibba on that Canadian radio show from a few years back, and Wasp and Sponk with Dopebeat at Prime Mover years ago when those three were really tight - i.e. Scu days. Conrad is always good on the Progression Sessions stuff too.

With a recording, you're missing the atmosphere, the vibe, the off the cuff freestyling and commenting on what's actually happening around you etc.

A comment that will always stick in my mind was one Scotrod made to me years ago in regards to MC'ing... "sometimes less is more".

That legendary Kenny Ken and Stevie Hyper D mix is awesome MCing.

Totally in your face, but legendary.

lots are yes. just like everyone who owns 2 records thinks they are a dj, but fuck i am over this debate.

why dont we argue whether breaks or DnB is better?

or vinyl is the only way or serrato is king?

or perhaps if dubstep is commercial now and how bad that is?

or how about we argue about whether you get more bang for your buck from folding or scrunching toilet paper...
