3 SOUNDSYSTEMS, 1 ARENA inna BASEMENT SESSION >> SAT 5 OCT

Post by Dub Club Melbourne »

Get ready for a mega Basement Session. For this one, residents Heartical HiFi Outernational steps aside, making way for a mighty showcase featuring three of Melbourne's newest crews, each playing their own individual custom built soundsytems. SOLID FOUNDATION meets SYSTEM UNKNOWN meets ECHO CHAMBER inna BASEMENT SESSION. This is the first time ever in Australia, three sounds have strung up to play the hard way in one arena.

SOLID FOUNDATION is Melbourne's latest addition to the ever growing locally based reggae sound system fraternity. Coming from the Heartical HiFi stable, both crew members Frankie Foundation and Fede of Italy's B_Team Sound System have been involved with Melbourne's pioneering sound as boxmen for some time. Now having purchased some of the original Heartical speaker boxes and pre-amp, the time has come for them to build up their own sound to forward and present their own extensive music collections in foundation reggae, roots and dub. This upcoming session will be Solid Foundation's showcase debut and must not be missed.

ECHO CHAMBER SOUND. Originally built and operated by trailblazing kiwi soundman Marty Vital, the rig is a four-scoop system designed to produce a crisp, sweet sound to showcase the full potential of the reggae riddim.
After acting as a catalyst for the birth of soundsystem culture in Aotearoa, the rig has now found its way into the hands of three young kiwis with an OCD approach to reggae – head honcho L Que, vibes master Colonel Mustard and digikal don Naram.
When you find yourself in the Echo Chamber, expect to be hit by a broad spectrum of selections from the rich tradition of Jamaican bass culture: from rocksteady and rub-a-dub, deep roots to digi dancehall – right up to the latest UK steppers, rootikal dubstep and razor sharp jungle – their only rule is it has to be well heavy and high quality.
The crew is also a production unit, with L Que and Naram both tweaking knobs on a daily basis – so their selections always include plenty of rough and tough original productions and dubplates. What’s more, Echo Chamber also operates as a record label – with one vinyl release already under their belt and more to come soon –

Echo Chamber also operates as a radio broadcaster thanks to L Que’s ‘Inside the Echo Chamber’ show broadcast fortnightly on Sub FM.

So don’t delay, check fi Echo Chamber today!

SYSTEM UNKNOWN is possibly the first dub reggae soundsystem to have been custom built by an all Aussie crew. They are a collective of Djs and musicians who share a love for Jamaican music and sound system culture. They met ironically thru their work as sound engineers for various P.A companies and Venues throughout Melbourne. Bonding over their love for bass heavy tunes and jamaican grooves they put all efforts into building their own unique sound system with a crisp intelligible analog sound perfect for the playback of vinyl records.

The name System Unknown came about as the collective started its life doing stealth like park parties and bbq's in the summer time.
'We'd find unassuming parks around Melbourne, String up the sound system, play bass all day then slip away in to the night.'
And so the name stuck.
They also consider the name as an oxymoron of sorts. System, being an organisation of components working together as one tight unit.
Then there is the "Unknown", random and unpredictable.

System Unknown has enjoyed a large number of park parties, beer gardens and small venues such as 303 bar, Section 8 & Three Monkey's
known as S.U.S.S (System Unknown Sunday Sessions).

Recently the crew have been busy in the workshop building up their now full set and this session will be the launch of their newly complete speaker stack. Another good reason to witness this very special Basement Sessions by Dub Club Melbourne
