Splitting hairs, semantics and all round 'couldn't give a shit' TBH.

First post was not directed specifically at you... you chose to repond (as per usual) - so I answered you.

PS: really love that eye rolling emoticon. Reminds me of being 12yo.

Yup... it was all "techno" back then. Music that didn't employ REAL musicians. I was all about alternative/punk/metal and getting righto into hip-hop also.

Then I discovered Bukem, and not long after - met Obliveus and co. and it was all downhill from there.

bwahahahha! @ fents

i used to be like that too.
at 15 was into chilli peppers, beck, nirvana, bob marley, doors, house of pain, all kinds of 'alternative' stuff..

then found aphex twin and used it for a drama play in year 11 and was like 'what the FUCK is this?"

took till the next year to go to my first 'rave' with few friends and a bunch of italian guys who used to pop pills and go 'rumble' each other, (they would fight the other guys but casue they were on e it was a big bonding thing for their crew, go figure)

same thing, one pinga later and 4 hours of HMC's dirty house tunes and i was hooked. :)

I was at that.

Come over with a heap of Adelaide people. I was pretty messy... we all were

My first rave was in 1993 in Adelaide, called Release. Funds went to Amnesty... so they said. It had Derrick May and HMC playing, I think. I went to see a band called Bliss, who were Adelaide's answer to the Prodigy... but better...

And Groove Terminator when he played in a hiphop band.

Come to think about it, I wasn't at that. Couldn't have been at that one as I went to the Big Day Out in Melbourne in 2001.

I did go see Ed Rush and Optical at the High Fi bar one year, probably earlier than that... maybe 97 or 98 - the first time they came to Australia.

My first one was some odd industrial techno BDSM night that my friends dragged me to for a laugh back in 94. There was lots of leather and rubber, cages, whips, pins and clamps, rather too many gimp balls and candle wax being dripped on people that were strung up in funny contraptions. I was only about 16 and got a little scared and retreated to the ladies powder room for most of the night. A lady in a g-string, corset and CFMs came in with her b/f with a dog collar on a leash and tied him to the wall while she went to the loo. She was quite nice and thankful for my help retrieving her contact from the sink when she dropped it in.

I think my first proper rave was Land of the Giants or earthcore or sommat. Hooked after that :) A bunch of good parties at Global Village, Bertie Street and the Spencer St rail sheds (now destroyed for Southern Cross) also spring to mind and I loved parties in the docklands - especially at Shed 14 and 11... I remember a very cool Darntootin there.

was best ... at there time there for a breaks bootleg floating ab " man from down under " lolz is my memory serve s me right
breaks where much slower then better to get ya groove on :angel3:
Man, I was hooked with that set. Would absolutely kill for a copy of that one. I kept thinking, in between gnawing on my lips, that they sounded like the Freestlyers album I'd recently bought.

Love the 115-120 bpm breaks (well, loved)...probably why I dig the AGFA, FK5, Qdup, etc sound these days. I remember getting a FLR sticker from the floor with the URL on it, flew back to the states and was on a computer ordering recs less than 2 weeks later. Still got em all, too. Dont hold my attention these days like they used to though...funny that. Still, for that time it was the best music to my ears.

Damn, I be old.

fuck i went to some great parties in spencer st sheds, cant remember who put em on or who played, but some mornings when they pulled the roller doors up and the sunlight off the water streamed in, i was fixted on some shufflers kicking up dust, will never forget that moment..

and, DARNTOOTIN!!!! even the flyers were made with love for those parties, hand done with glitter! you dont see marketing like that anymore do you?

thread makes me feel old. which is probably how i should feel.

first real rave/clubbing experience was in year 11 ... the school held a talent show and a bunch of raver chicks did a full melb shuffle dance demonstration to the school to the prodigy's voodoo people which was pretty out there from a programming perspective.

one of them was super cute and the phatties seemed very flattering at the time so it sparked my curiosity. over the next few years i got more and more into it, but sadly i never owned a pair of phatties and now at 32 I'm too old to incorporate them into my current sensible wardrobe.

lots of memories reading this of parties/club i've been to.
