What's a protour? Has it got suicide gear levers or the.... handlebar ones...? Would I need to do stuff like replace saddle and all that minor stuff that adds up?

Cheers

Protour is a brand.

I don't know what suicide gear levers are, the gears are on the diagonal tube, ala a 1996 bike of it's kind.

I think the saddle etc. is okay. Mate, it's $100.... it ain't going to be mint condition. But it's a reasonable bike (good for the money), just needs a service, a clean - maybe some new tires... hard to say, I haven't ridden it for years.

Would anyone be able to point me in the right direction of where I can buy frames/forks online? I want a pushy to commute to work and would like to build my own fixie since I can't seem to find any pre-built ones that I really like. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

for local places try the little mule or saint cloud, both specialise in fixed/single speed

or if you're dead keen on getting all the parts and putting it together yourself, you can try wiggle.co.uk, ribblecycles.co.uk, probikekit.com, chainreactioncycles.com

bear in mind that although the prices for most parts can't be beaten on those websites, you have to really know your shit to avoid buying the wrong stuff (ie- bottom brackets and head sets that will fit your frame etc etc).......also bear in mind that unless you have the tools and know how to build a bike properly, taking all the parts to a workshop and having them do it will cost you on average about $200, which obviously isn't cheap

i'd suggest looking around for a complete bike.....most shops worth their salt will swap out any parts you don't want for the ones you do, meaning you ride away on a bike you're happy with without having to worry about the inevitable headaches which always seem to crop up when sourcing parts and having a build done

good luck

Thanks for the replies. My old man use to race track and owned a store for 10years so knowledge/tools aren't a problem. Just having trouble finding frames anywhere online and I think that I will find building my own to be more rewarding. I will check out those links. Have been meaning to check out Little Mule when I'm in the city next. Site looks good! Thanks again for the links,

This FUCKING IDIOT squeezed past me down Elizabeth Street this morning on a motorbike... he though it was a good idea to beep his horn as he did it, came within centimeters. Scared the absolute shit out of me. But then I saw Huge riding the other way and everything was OK :)

I heard him revving his penis extension just before he did this. I thought it was a car at first, so I ignored it thinking they're got no room to pass anyway. I was wrong.

wankers

Glad my commute no longer takes in Elizabeth St in the morning. Had a few close calls with impatient idiots

My commute routes have changed drastically in the last few months. It's far from empowering to know that you've had to radically alter the way you get to and from work/town as a direct result of being intimidated by thoughtless morons

Melbourne=bike friendly city my fucking arse
