Gold Coast - good times?

Post by witty_pseudonym »

So I've been trying to find somewhere decent to go this weekend on the Gold Coast, but it in Kronz's words most places look like they are 'gay clubs for gym junkie testosterone fueled straight gaylords listening to fucked house music.'

Has decent music made its way up there, or did it avoid the Goldy and head straight for Brisbane?

Any recommendations would be appreciated...otherwise the nights may be spent at Platinum listening to trance whilst getting felt up by a tanned beefcake in pink shorts, sipping on a flirtini.

I am sure you would love being felt up by a tanned beefcake in pink shorts sipping on a flirtini.

they don't even have trance....

think of the worst electro house you can... then add maddonna, pink and MJ accapellas, with a few donk remixes of kylie thrown in, sneaky soundsystem etc etc etc...... yuck

there's about 15 clubs in a 2-3 block stretch... they all have the same music and crowd. they is no hip-hop, good house, breaks, trance or anything remotely good. Seriously, don't even try... you will lose all faith in clubbing, people, music and probably top yourself down on the beach at 3am.

I've played down at Rubys night club a few times.
We usually play prog, some breaks and good house (not commercial shite).
Not sure what they play there normally, but the venue isnt too bad compared to the rest!

We were just up there last week and found absolutely nothing. Just drive to Nimbin and dance with the hippies...you dont even need a nightclub.

Yep- I grew up there and its basically fucked for good tunes/clubs.
A place in Collangatta called Baha used to do the odd breaks gig, but thin crowd so doubt its still kickin..
Swingin safari is a possible option for hiphop/funk.
Brizvegas or Byron- anything but platnium..

Make sure you you go The Arcade (i think that's what it's called) and take a few coasters. 10 of the vest pick up lines you'll even come across feigs. Orchid and Cavill Avenues are just pure comedy...if not revoltingly tragic. I've never seen anything like it and hope never to again.

It was nothing short of scary. God I <3 Melbourne.
