i haven't been there in about a year i reckon...
we used to take acts there sometimes before prince gigs...

now it's normally sapore or that new place azalea.
azalea is INCREDIBLE food. yum yum yum. and really really nice staff there too.
http://miettas.com/Australia/Victoria/S ... zalea.html
they don't actually have a single vegie dish on the menu but i've asked them to make something up and each time i've been there (about 5) they've made a different thing for me and they've all been really really tasty... :D
karl you came with us there with krush didn't you? you can back me up on this one. great food! ;)

You can do a lot worse than Subway. But I'm not sure about the meat there, I usually get salads.

i like making stirfries..i tend to just invent my own sauces. its pretty hard to fuck up. heres another easy one:

make sure youve got vegies chopped beforehand. Try beans, snow peas, bok choi, broccoli, chinese broccoli, carrot, onion, capsicum, shiitake mushrooms.

heat up some sesame oil in a wok, chuck in a bunch of stir fry pork and fry till its just cooked. empty it out onto a piece of kitchen paper.

put a bit more oil in the wok and stick in some onion, crushed garlic and capsicum. fry it till its soft then chuck in all the other vegies. Then throw the pork back in over the top. shake it around a bit. then pour in oyster sauce and sweet chilli sauce...whatever looks appropriate ;)

and thats it. no need to do the vegies for long, the point is to keep em crispy.

ok these are my fave melbourne hangouts for take-away business.

best of awards:

chips - chicken shop near maccas on glenhuntly rd, near nepean hwy. near subway.

butter chicken and cheese naans (indian food) - "Armol", 107 Mentone Parade. Mentone.

subway sanger - chicken terri and sweet onion sauce.

ceaser salad - cafe shop in chadstone on the 2nd level near myer.

fresh sushi - bottom level southland opposite harvey norman.

fast burgers (in general) - Orporto's

garden salad - Nando's... it's the fucking bomb!!!

kebab and egg/cheese pastry - kebab station on bell st. coburg.

Pizza - Poci's on Hampton St., Hampton (opposite Video Ezy) BEST FUCKING PIZZA EVER!

Fat Pizza - Marconi's Highett st. Highett. for a juicy pizza with the lot :)

Noodles and Asian Style - Noodleland (Mordialloc) Opposite. NQR. Nepean hwy.

Meat Eaters - Vlado's Bridge Rd. Richmond. Expensive as fuck, but best steak i've ever eaten - $400 dropped on my 21st (3 people)

Pasta - Trattoria - (toorak rd. near chapel st.)

Turkish Foods - Marmarra Restaurant (near Windsor train station., lower end of chapel st.)

Breakfast - This cafe in fitzroy. had the best eggs benedict ever there. pity I forgot where it is exactly :( (johnston st. maybe...)

GM: agreeing with you on the top quality of Pure South. Only been there once but i was soo impressed! Great food!

Abla's - ate there recently for the boy's birthday and we splurged on the $40 per person banquet. My god! We ate the most beautifully prepared and cooked lebanese food ever in this popular and family run little restaurant. We ate more than different 10 different entree & main dishes which were served in perfect sized portions so that you got to taste everything, eat loads but weren't going to explode (like Mr Cresote!) Finished off with coffee that didnt keep me up all night and took our 2 desserts home to eat!
10/10 for Abla's on Elgin St in Carlton, plus it is BYO with NO CORKAGE charge!

Pho - no one has mentioned this fine dish of vietnamese goodness. I love a trip to Mekong on Swanston to have some or to Vina Bar on Lygon which also does great chicken and coleslaw salad. YUMMMM.
If we go to Richmond for the Vietnamese fix it has to be Thi Thi! :)

There's one off Dandenong Rd in Malvern East (opp. Coles), next to a Greek Restaurant that does pretty good souva's. Also the one opp. Souvlaki King (who is NOT the king) in Brunswick St, Fitzroy. There's another one in High St Northcote that's bad-ass - not sure what it's called (the bloke who owns it is painting a mural inside there...) :?:
