Oooo :D. I can't be sure until the job market pans out - could be moving states, coming home, <some other whim of the gods of serendipity>. There's a pretty good chance I'll be in SF for a conference around the start of June though. I'll keep you posted!

Next trip locked: Chicago! Never been, very excited. I may even get adopted and have a real Thanksgiving :)
C.I.A. wrote: How's the mood on the street, Dr Retz? Heard some rumblings from the Hate States/Glen Beck contingent. Massive unemployment (jobless recovery lulz), the sub-prime legal robo-signing clusterfuq, Helicopter Ben pushing for a second round of quantitative easing to assist the zombie banks, privatise wealth and socialise poverty... it's going to be an interesting time to be over there.

I'm doing some stuff on the deepwater horizon spill... will be hanging out down south for a bit... will let you know if I'm in shouting distance from Casa Del Herbie :)

(I get my own personal Xe guard. Let's get him smashed and dress him up in drag while he's passed out)
Sorry, bit slow. I'm not really a good person to ask about the 'mood on the street.' The street here believes that universal healthcare is a mark of socialism (which is bad) and should be stopped for the good of the nation. I tend not to talk to people here for that very reason :?

Having said that, I've been in NYC a bit and it doesn't seem too doom and gloom (mainly because the people who got fucked had to leave the city immediately any aren't cluttering up the place with their moaning.) That being said, the people I associate with (academics and bartenders (lol)) aren't really going to cop it directly. There is plenty of stress within academia, but we're not very good at looking beyond the end of our noses. Universities are having to perform all manner of contortions to keep running and it's not pretty. Unfortunately, it's those of us on the job market who are getting screwed the worst :(

PS. Yessss always to corrupting/compromising body guards :D

I've stumbled upon the Alien mother-nest of hipsters in Vancouver.
I wanted to be a hero. I wanted to be the center of attention. I wanted the glory, I wanted the fame. I wanted the pretty girls to come up and say, "Hi, I see that you're good at Centipede."

Williamsburg in Brooklyn NYC seems to be good for finding hipsters - a word of warning though, it's one suburb away from the murder capital of the USA.

Also, it appears that you really need a car to get around in Miami...

What the heck are you talking about?

Totally similar to Wellington - Hills, trolley buses, Edwardian style housing, compact walkable city center, bay with island in the middle and prevalence of marijuana. Maybe a bit bigger, but even then San Fran itself has a population of around 800k (not including the greater metro area)

I would change now. I have absolutely zero knowledge/interest in the financial markets, but from watching the $AU for a while, I doubt it will go too far above 1:1. Yes, there may be slightly better value to be had, but it's still a pretty sweet deal right now.

Depending on how much liquid cash you have, if it actually goes higher, you could also change more at the time. I doubt it will be this high permanently :famouslastwords:
