I'm 6,2" and did Jetstar to Hawaii which is 11 hours and it was fine. Well actually it wasn't I was pretty cramped, but no more so than what I am on Qantas.

Thailand totally doable.

Sweet backpackers called The Green Turtle in North Beach - if trying to conserve coin. I rented my own double room. Initially booked for 2 nights to check the vibe, stayed for 4. You can score free meals and lots of discounted activities. Around $60 a night if I recall correctly.

North Beach is really centrally located, even if it is in the red light district (strip clubs, not brothels - well, not that I noticed). You can walk to the city, walk to the bay etc. I'd go back, in fact was meant to in January - but my mate pulled out of the trip.

You can do it Riz! Just think, tax return, leave payout etc. It's always possible. :D

Have decided to move back to Kolkata in August for a while. No idea how visas or money will work out but fuck it. I know it's meant to be. Time to get my save on.

completely agree... if something happens so u cant go, that is surely temp.. so go asap after...

Direkt, i did caribbean cruise a few years ago.. only did Florida keys, cayman islands and Cozumel but was awesome... i would recommend cruise cos u get to many places for one cost and the boat is pure relaxo

thanks Quick. It'll be on the tail end of a NYC visit (if it happens). I'm thinking it might be nice just to stay in one spot for maximum relaxation - but I don't know much about the different islands, and from what I hear - there's a hell of a lot of difference there. Some are expensive boutique resorts, some are dangerous, whilst others are chilled etc...

Cozumel wold be good, cheap, not dangerous, but very touristy, but a lot to do, and some real nice beaches.... its actually the largest Mexican Island. Or fly back via Hawaii... Cayman Islands are exe, but a return flight from Miami to a lot of central america (cheap as chips) is doable... check out Nicaragua even...

stay away from Kuta at all costs. dont bother shopping unless you want batik crap.

head north to Amed first, and do snorkelling and diving! Stay at WAWAWEWE!!!! go there first, then you can jump on a fastboat across to the Gili islands - AMAZING and beautfiul, in Lombok.

Ubud is nice but touristy. monkey temple is totes awesome, do NOT take bananas.

hire a driver for your trip north, if you go to Ubud stay at Hansnel's. everyone will know where it is, was run by a dutch painter, best food ever.
dont go white water rafting but do go visit the stray dogs home. give them cash. they need it.

anything specific, hit me up ;)

White water rafting is alright - big 4M drop at the end was fun except for the near busted nose.

Ubud - V nice. fairly quiet aswell.

Diving - north is good, I got two dives in on a wreck on the east coast. would be boring for any more dives after that, got too see quite a few things I hadn't seen before which was awesome

heh the 4mtre drop was the only fun part, the rest was not rapids!

diving on lombok really good -10 sites within 10 minutes boat ride of gili trawangan though there is some coral damage they are trying to fix.

Why no to white water rafting Bo?
We are going May - 5 night in Ubud too long? or can you day trip?
We are on a total R&R leaving bub behind and all.
Spending longest part down at Balangan Beach for surfing.

cos its not white water rafting, its a creek, touristy as hell, and is the shittest ive ever done in any country.

5 days is AGES in Ubud, by night 3 i was well n truly ready to leave. there isnt really much to do but random art galleries, shopping and monkey temple tbh. its pretty much where retirees go to 'bali' ;) i would not go there again tbh....day trip would be totally fine...

yay for surfing in balangan beach, watch out for the locals! competition is intense on the break...

I'll be there in May as well DBoy.

Where is the best place to learn to surf? I have never surfed before but i am sure i will pick it up pretty quickly, I can snowboard and skate so i don't think it will take too long.

in that case, i take back my earlier comment - kuta to learn then. loads of cowboys to rent boards from, and a nice sweet easy break, plus they are used to tourists cutting their teeth on the beach there.

Thanks mang.

In looking at the man, I'm thinking all of these places are options:
Cuba
The Bahamas
Mexico
The Caribbean
Jamaica
...etc

What to do, what to do.

Kitteh.. if u go into Loas from South Vietnam then you should go past 1000 Islands in south of Loas... maybe scuba there, dont know, but supposed to be beautiful... lots of hardcore bus trips going that way tho, so be prepared.

Amick... check flights with Air Asia and Nok Air to islands down south... they are usually pretty cheap and saves you 12+ hours of travel time. If you come to london at all let me know :)

Nga Trang is an epic shithole Bo.

Crappy beach filled with wanker tourists and shops like the "American Restaurant" where they ship everything in from the US (including vegetables) because they are amazing assholes so high up on their own horses that the horses are actually giraffes and they are guilty of illegal animal trafficking.

AVOID!

The diving might be nice though.
