Finally saw 'Slumdog Millionaire' last night.

Whilst it's certainly a good movie... I don't know if it warrants all the hype about it.

Nowhere near my "best movies of all time" category.

Still, well done.... 8.5/10.

Yeah I liked it, and can understand its success, to a point.

But it wouldn't even scrape into my top 20 of all time.

Sure but films about kids being abused growing up in slums isn't really the kind of romantic escapism we usually demand from films.

I mean fuck, City of God is an amazing, groundbreaking film but thats not in my top 20 either.

I just couldn't watch it again, too bleak, too challenging.

They're still great films though.

its funny you talk about the 'romnatic escapism' of movies, casue 30% of the time i do want to drift away and be simply entertained,
but the rest of the time i WANT to be challenged.

I like movies that rip my guts out, make me examine my own views on things, and leave me with loads to think about.

prolly why i loved three dollars and happiness and the idiots and requiem for a dream and other full on movies.

Ken Park was utter shit. trying to be shocking for the sake of being shocking, which tends to have the opposite effect. Basically it's a porno but with hired writers.

Mate, that has nothing to do with my thoughts/review on the movie.

I base a good movie, on being a good movie - not an "uplifiting" movie, nothing else.

'Schindler's List' is an awesome movie. 'A Beautiful Life' is an awesome movie. I wouldn't put 'Slumdog' in the same league as those films.
