WATCH IT!!
Machete is the bomb. I watched it with my Dad, and he spent the whole next week basing all his actions on "what Machete would do".
Your dad rules! haha.. did he go and shag someone's wife and daughter in a pool and film it?
No. But it certainly wasn't through lack of trying.

Yeah. I thought I might be able to tolerate him playing a twat, but it just wasn't funny. And that Jonah Hill guy just doesn't work at all.

mrj wrote:Watched Factotum on the weekend. It's a perfectly fine movie, but it also doesn't go anywhere. The whole movie feels like its setting up for some event, or some crisis, but it never happens. Maybe because the whole movie is a crisis, the guys life is a crisis. It gets its point across quite well and all that, and a its great depiction of the sad realities of alcoholism, but i think you have to read the guys books to find it interesting.

Also watched Half Nelson. Ryan Gosling is awesome in this, as he was in Lars and the real girl. Here he plays a character with an actual personality though so he's better in this, certainly evidenced by the fact he got an Oscar nomination for this movie. Is a bit like Factotum in some ways in that it feel like its building to some sort of event that never comes, but I'm starting to wonder that whether I expect that from movies because I've been conditioned by the whole hollywood fomula of set-up, crisis, resolution. Anyways, a great portrait of the day to day of a functioning drug addict, it helps that Gosling in the lead is incredibely likeable, even when he's being an asshole. The movie does have a punchline in a way, but I felt its more subtle than what we are used to, and certainly forces you to analyse the characters and their interactions, even to imagine what they think and what they expect of each other.

I'd forget Factotum, but defintiely watch Half Nelson.
I love Bukowski's work even though a number of awesome women tell me he's an assole (misoginsitic!) and I think Barfly is much better than Factotum. Agree that books are definitely better.
Half Nelson is awesome portrayal of functioning addict and it kicked my ass although I chose to do nothing about for several years.

I first encountered films with no crisis resolution when I watched Less Than Zero, it made me hate the film at first, but then I realised it was the lack of life that the rich hollywood kids portrayed in the film is what annoyed me, and I gues that was the point of the book in the first place.

2 and a half men is the worst show on TV. id rather watch beauty and the geek tbh.

watched Inception last week - killer! loved it. leo's still got it.

also watched Gamer, amazing visuals and good concept.

reccommend both.

One of the low-points of the past decade. Dickhead kid, Buscemi wanna-be 'everyman' limp-wristed cardboard cut-out character and Charlie Sheen playing Himself.

Next on 2.5 men: main douchebag character wanders around fine dining establishment, half nude with coke smeared all over his face, demanding that a porn star blow him before busting up a room and being thrown in jail.

Lulz a plenty.

And I'd totally watch footage of Charlie Sheen being so high he has to have a sheet thrown over him by the cops before they can subdue him.

How the hell TV still gets away with "I love Lucy" still script delivery and canned laughter I have no idea.

Rented Hot Tub Time Machine for something brainless. Turned it off and threw my DVD player in the Hot Tub hoping to get my 45 minutes back.

Did not even crack a smile, let along a laugh.

Its the one with Jesse James, I didn't use to like him but he's quite an achiever and apart from being dishonest in relationships he seems pretty switched on.

Who he sleeps with is of little consequence to how good that show is, and compared to Charlie Sheen he's almost an angel.

Prognosis Negative - A single guy who is unable to commit to a relationship. He finds out an ex-girlfriend has six months to live and decides it's perfect he can commit without worrying about the long term consequences.

Rochelle, Rochelle - A young girl's strange, erotic journey from Milan to Minsk.

CheckMate - A movie about chess and intrigue... here's a quote:

Guy: I didn't know you enjoyed chess, your majesty.
King: Why wouldn't I?
Guy: Because the king is always in jeopardy.
King: Yes, but it's only a game!
Guy: (suspiciously) Yes, of course...only a game.

finally got my grubby mitts on a copy of Animal kingdom.

Wasn't bad, cinematography and sound design were awesome but story was a tad bit bog standard. No alarms and no suprises here indeed.

It's funny cos Jackie Weaver hasn't aged a bit in 30 years and i mean that in the sense that she has looked 60 for the past 30 years.

Also finally watched cool hand luke aswell, fairly interesting film that needs a revisit I think to take in all of the subtle and not so subtle biblical subtext.

Paul Newman was fantastic and his nuance as Luke was outstanding.
