Being mindful is hard for us because we are always anxious about time.... Learning that we have enough---money, time, love---may be our most important lesson. Even when we eliminate the apparent obstacles of working and consuming too much, we still have trouble relaxing and enjoying the present moment. So the problem is not just the scarcity of time, it's our attitude toward time. That little voice always creeps in: You'd better hurry, you've got a lot to do, you're not getting enough done, time is running out. What does this mean in terms of feeling alive? Surely, if things keep on this way, when we come to die, we will discover that we have not lived.

Report just in:

Michael Jackson has died as a result of a heart attack due to lack of air - Paramedics tried to resuscitate but could not find his mouth, nose, ears or face, he also left in his will that he wants to be melted down and turned into a play station so all the little kids will still play with him.

Quote of the day so far...
Coming from my work colleague Phil who has a pure maths degree

Discussing Gaudi and use of stuff like hyperbolic functions
http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q ... a=N&tab=wi

Me: Oh right so it wasn't acid that inspired him just mathematics? Or maybe a bit of both?
Phil: What's the difference?

Dam that's some crazy shit tho need to incorporate some of those ideas into some illustrative design.

morning everyone.

D im confused by your statement, specifically the vs bit.
Do you perhaps mean "private life on a public forum" or are we talking about a cage fight between the two here?
I guess you mean "private life vs public life...on a forum"

I think some people say way too much on a forum, and i think that some people read what someone is like on a forum and think that that is what they are like in real life which is not always the case.

Expressing yourself on a forum is potentially easier, but also potentially harder. All in the eye of the beholder. I think some people may hold back opinions in fear of being flamed by dominant groups of people on a forum whereas in real life, those dominant people may not even converse with the person so those objections would not present themselves.

People are never the way I expect them to be when I meet them after knowing them online. Once I know them personally then it all makes more sense.

There's some people I thought were complete wankers (like Blaxter :teef: ) but turned out they were alright

it was really the whole issue of celebrity that got me thinking. People defending MJ and his 'privacy' of which he had none.

What about if you post something on a public forum - does that make it fair game for people to judge you in any way and make comments, harsh as they like, just because you shared something with the public, or do we have a 'social responsibility' to be fair and caring to our fellow society members?

What about stalkers - anyone else had people surprisingly know where you are going to be because they have tracked one or more of your regular haunts online. Seemingly thought you were just letting those who respond know whats up on the weekend only to find out someone who just 'happens' to be where ever you go has been reading your business for months and months.

heh. mornin.

I guess ive got a lot to answer for when it comes to private life vs public forum, even though im a load more restrained than i used to be.

Yes, its fair game for people to judge you and your opinions, but they will anyways, they will even judge you if you walk past em on the street and dont even speak to you, but its up to you to take it on or not.

I have had a little bit of stalking happen, harmlass curiosity mostly, but a while ago i chose to market myself as myself, no hiding, so if ya wanna google me, you can find out lots, and hopefully that does me more good than harm, for i do get work and connections due to be being so out and loud online. It has also brought me enemies, who dont even know me, but take what i say to offence or how i say it, and thats a shame. However, if people wanna judge based on limited info, thats their perogative.

I also like playing devils advocate. but we know that. ;)

I try and circumvent the stalking thing by using pseudonyms.... sometimes it doesn't offer complete protection, but it is an ok first-line of defense. The second line is not to put anything up that you would mind seeing printed in a newspaper for general social consumption. I'm super-stoked that there were no digital photos or facebook socialising sites around when I was a teenager.
I wanted to be a hero. I wanted to be the center of attention. I wanted the glory, I wanted the fame. I wanted the pretty girls to come up and say, "Hi, I see that you're good at Centipede."

i think a big difference between MJ and someone posting on a forum is that MJ makes a whole lotta money out of his celebrity, yes intially it was his music, but now (up until his death) he could fart into a microphone and because of his notoriety people would buy it.
So therefore, if you make money from being in the public, you open yourself up to judgement and should have no complaint about being analysed. If you don't want that, work as a mechanic or do a burial (but don't reveal yourself).
If you want the praise, you have to take the good with the bad.

from an email i recieved today about a program i am running. Love my job at times.
The constant tug of the impulse to leave the world a better place than I found it, the whisper that says "from those to whom much is given, much is expected", the compulsion to honour the idea of being a man for others, the drive to be a man for all seasons, the courage to dare all that is within me and the gadfly phrase "what profit a man to gain the world and lose his soul?" are inescapable

Things that are wrong with the world # 1:

- People calling their children 'Axle'. Any wonder Axle Rose ended up wet and writhing in front of a mic wearing nothing but white bike pants? They may as well have called him 'Chunk-style Meatball The Third' for all the good it did him. People who call their children Diesel deserve a similar fate in the new 10th ring of hell that I recently invented. Anyone who abuses spelling when naming their living abortions is heading to this tenth ring too. Kryystall and Dannylinne's parents, I'm looking at you.

- Men who wear white bike shorts, especially when drenched in perspiration.

His parents didn't name him that.... nor did Axle Whitehead's parents.... Diesel was also self named.

so, your number one problem with the world doesn't exist... YAY
