Well yeah. A better way to put it would be that I ALWAYS have data switched off, and just switch it on when I wanna browse teh webz or use maps

No need for juicer whatsit apps n ting. Just switch data/wifi/gps on and off as i need......they only take a second or two to fire up, and the switches are on me home screen for super quick access

theres 50 comments on my FB post. but tbh its about 60 % telstra and 40% optus.

atm its

optus - $59 cap with $700 calls and 2gb data + insuanrce if you want it.

Telstra - $59 cap + $10 per month handset with $550 calls and 1.5 gb data and no insurance option.

so yeah, on paper optus way more appealing. but lots of ppl saying optus cust service = crap and coverage also crap.

telstra is premium... most dont need the extra they offer... sure its nice to have but what optus offers is well good enough for most, i.e. coverage is sweet in built up areas, cust serv is at least par with other telcos and they are cheaper...

Posted about this the other day, then thought i had it figured out, hence the deleted post above.......still stuck though

Anyone tried to cache google maps on android? Been running into trouble in remote areas where i can't get a good data/internet connection. Gps works fine ie- i can see the blue arrow changing direction as i move around, but because i can't connect to the web, the arrow appears on a blank grid instead of a map, rendering it useless. Obviously the maps are stored online, which is no use to me if i can't access them, so.......how do i cache the maps for say victoria or australia to my phone so i can just bring them up on the fly?

Try Navfree. It's free and pretty decent and stores the maps on the phone.

yeah. you can always do dodgy unlocking, but the only people who can properly unlock the phone are the ones who locked it in the first place.

so my phone worked while os.

the funny thing was, even with full charge, once every few days (or a few times a day) it would just die, and then when i switched it back on it had reset the date to january 1st 1970.
i would then get a calendar reminder for EVERY event since then
(like - i was born hahaha)

i tried to put it back to the same date, it would die again. eventually i decided that 1970 it was and then it died a lot less often, but still now n then. happened with both thai and lao sim cards in it.

wierd huh?

well, that happened to me when I switched it back on after swapping the batteries. Was fairly annoying trying to clear all those calendar reminders lol. Sounds to me like the battery is disconnecting itself randomly... Maybe the glue I used isn't strong enough and it's wobbling around in there... poo to that :(

Switched from vodabone to telstra yesterday

Data connection is soooo much faster and more reliable. No doubt phone coverage will be heaps better too. Prepaid prices are pretty much the same, if anything better on telstra

Can't wait to get up in the hills and actually be able to pull up a google map. Haha shock horror

Ah right hadn't realised that

Tbh the deciding factor in changing providers was the piss poor vodafone coverage in remote areas

Hopefully the issue you've mentioned doesn't affect me too much

So far so good

Ha read this just after completing a netbank transfer on my android phone.

Pretty much the only wifi connection i use is our home internet. When out in public i use my provider's data connection. From what's written in the article, seems as though that's a good way to mitigate the risks. Maybe teh nerds can give a bit more insight on this.

Since i've had the phone i haven't really gone nuts downloading apps. Must say though that a few of the games i've had a muck around with have looked as though they were riddled with aids. Promptly deleted they were.

One thing that has pissed me off is android's insistence on syncing with a gmail account, and the auto remembering of my hotmail account. Tbh i don't really know if it makes a difference or not, but i'd feel much safer entering my password every time, as opposed to it just remembering me.

having reverted to an old brick for the last few days, i have a new love for my ipone. yes it's the 1st gen and slow and i can't put music on it and the battery life is comparatively shit, but it has stuff on it that is useful! it has however, made me realise how much simpler life was before camera phones, facebook/email/innernet 24/7, apps for everything and commuting distractions.

the flash is rubbish and the sensor falls apart pretty dramatically in extremes of light (too much or too little ... geddit). anyhow having the ir filter and a more sensitive sensor would be fantastic.
